I have a bsw box (2x 10") but I want something lighter for my rear that I wont have to remove for autox.

I was thinking JL but are there any other options? Maybe just the housings as I want to use subs from elemental design.

Even any custom ideas as I am getting other work done and the shop can make me some thing.

the 8ib4 woofer that comes with the stealths is no slouch... i seriously doubt you will gain anything moving to a elemental designs woofer. that being said, just buy a pair of stealths and be happy. i love mine... they weigh almost nothing and you will welcome back your trunk.

What would you recommend for a single 10"????

I'd recommend glassing a single 10" into the trunk wall.

I like the idea of having my trunk clean and the subs where my rear speakers are. I'm not sure if it decreases rattle, but I would think it'd help.

Keep in mind that in terms of "sound quality" and output you will be "downgrading" from what you have. My personal opinion is the stealthboxes in the e36 sound is, well, not good. Just my personal opinion but two different cars have had them. One with an alpine amp and one with JL and the sound was just not up to par for me. I think a single 10" in a sealed box with the rear speakers removed is better.

Let me know if I can be of any help!

BSW knows their stuff, so I would take their opinion seriously. Having said that, I have personally tried:

JL Stealths
12" Oz Audio 1.0 cuft sealed
(3) Elemental Designs e8a (disc) in a custom fiberglass box
JL Stealths

My first setup were the stealths. I got bored of them and wanted to go bigger. So eventually, I decided to try a 12" sub.

The best SQ set up was the sealed 12" subwoofer. However, I dreaded the extra weight in the car, the space it took up, and the increased rattles. Also, it was very difficult to tune the music toggling back and forth from XM, CD, and MP3. If I set it perfect for one of them, it would make it too loud or too quiet on the other.

The triple 8" subs were huge 8" subs. They took up less space, but did not sound as good as the sealed 12".

Ultimately, I went back to the stealths. The woofers in them always got raved reviews by a lot of audiophiles I respected so I gave them another shot. I can't express how I love them now that I am in my 30s. In my 20s, I thought they were kinda boring, but now, I think they suit me perfectly. I've totally lost my desire to upgrade and my wallet is happy about that. Not too loud, blends very well with my SQ setup, super light weight, and takes no space at all. If your like me, the stealths advantages will totally outweigh its shortcomings. I am sure a nice fiberglassed enclosure in the corner of the trunk would work very nicely too. A nice SQ sub would be a 12" Image Dynamics IDQ. Their top of the line ID MAX sub is way overkill IMO.

Ebay or classifieds since they are discontinued. Here's a pic of mine installed and you can barely even notice they are there...

Yah don't get me wrong they are a great solution if their design is what you are looking for. I didn't want to come off as being negative :)

I was more directing it to the OP as he will be downgrading in SQ and output from what he has. If that is not a problem then go for it!

kinda off topic:

I went from the JL Audio Stealths...then a pair of OZ 10s in a sealed enclosure. Loved the sound of the 10s...also hated the space they took up.

Since I sold my stealths...I actually found a used JL Audio Microsub 8.2. I actually really really really like the sound of this setup. But sadly, one of the woofers had blown.

Does anyone know of the model woofer JL used in this enclosure? Are replacements available?

TIA.

I say this in every thread...

But Tang Band speakers are great for their price, what you pay for is the speaker, no frills, gimmicks, or advertisements, just RAW driver.

This 8" sub has been noted as an excellent JL Stealthbox replacement and has seen good results in infinite baffle.

I run these 6x9" subs using BSW speaker adapters, and they pound so hard that my car is desperately needing some sound deadening on the rear deck, I just haven't had time to do it.

This is my trunk setup, you can barely see my subs hanging off the deck, and I have tracked with it all in there!

More than likely. What is the mounting depth and hole cutout?

You see I bought them off a friend, how would I get the measurements to be able to give them to you? I could take pictures if youd like...Also I have an amp which I want to mount somewhere. My goal is to keep as much trunk space as possible. And not have anything flying around. So I will probably mount the amp to one of the side walls after I see where the subs will go.

Get their model number and go to the manufacturer's homepage. Should have all the specs :)

Ok I found it but how do I tell whether is a dual or single coil?

I always really liked what Stuck did.

It doesn't take up any extra room for the most part, and I bet it sounds great.

The model number somewhere on the subwoofer usually points to dual or single.

But in reality we really just need to know the mounting depth and hole cutout :)

To be honest I want to try at a sponsorship or discount from eD which is why I want something where my rear speakers are.

My bsw box has 2 10" mb quarts that I got free with the purchase. They are reference series. Bass is nice for me, maybe even a bit much, but quality isnt as clear and thick as 2x12"s and I rather not have as much rattle- especially sine I have a new trunk. :evil2

So I would like something small, compact, clean, and wont have to remove for autox, but will still give me decent bass for electronic music justice.

Appreciate all the help Im getting. :buttrock
