View Full Version : Where in the Bay Area could I get some straight pipes similar to the AA trackpipe?

Rather than drop 800 for an AA track pipe with 02 sims, I was wondering if anyone in the bay area had some first hand experience with an exhaust shop in making some straight pipes.

I want to get rid of my cats on my car and will need to find a solution as to how to use some 02 sims. Can anyone make some reccomendations?

NakNak, garrett got this done...

maybe he'll chime in.

Not sure if we're talking about the same thing though.

You can use spark plug anti-foulers instead of O2 sims. They are like 3 bucks each at pep boys. They do not work 100% on all setups, but they do work pretty darn well. Just every now and again (read: every few months) you *may* get a CEL. Some get it and some don't.

I had a shop cut out my cats and resonators and replace with straight pipes. it was LOUD and sounded like ass. I would highly recommend getting a real nice resonator(s) from, say, Magnaflow and replace your cats and resonators with that. Should be fine.

I'm guessing you are OBD2 since you are worried about post cat o2 sims. Since you already have the better midpipe, all you need to do is have a muffler shop hack it up. A single 2 in 2 out resonator or high flow metallic cat will help improve the sound and also the environment if you get a cat.;)

Where in the Bay Area are you? If it's close by I would recommend Babe and Lighting Muffler in Campbell, Ca. All of my import friends get their exhaust work done there and MaloventEvil got the exhaust on his 540 done there too. They do great work.

Will a non-M 6-cyl cat/resonator section bolt up to an M3? '95 specifically, thinking about buying somebody's old cats, chopping em out, installing tube mufflers, and swapping that out for track events.

Yes they will bolt up. Just make sure you get an OBD2 mid section since they are true dual pipes and flow much better.

Wait, why? If I'm replacing the cats/resonator area anyways, don't people PREFER the OBD-I inlet?? I'd cut from there and run a large diameter single muffler, probably...

alotta ghetto muffler shops can make u one. but u have to be specific in wat u want. my friend had a shop in oakland make him a strait pipe that goes all the way out to the bumper. i was accutally very nice, looked almost oem, except there was no cat or muffler.

he just brought his car in with the stock pipes, and had them copy the stocker's but as a strait pipe.

I want to bring my center section in, and tell him I want it the same length, ends in exactly the same place/angle... but with the middle changed. We'll see...

With a single muffler this might be the better choice since you already have a single collector. What I was referring to was for those who wish to keep the stock setup of the pipes. In this case, the OBD2 mid section flows much better than its OBD1 counterpart.

My advice to you is to not just take your mid section there. Take your car. That way, when they cut the center stuff out, they can leave the flanges attached. When they weld the rest of the pipe on, the flanges will already be at the right angles and lengths. If they do it off the car, it will probably leak at the flanges.
