Hi everyone,

I work for Meguiar’s, and I'm looking for a black BMW with a finish in bad condition for my booth.

I want to buff it out for demonstration purposes for this year’s Bimmerfest.

So far… I’m having trouble finding a black BMW with a finish in bad condition, an inspirational testimony to BMW’s and BMW owners.

What I would like to do is buff-out only one half for the event, then do the other half the following weekend. For this reason, it would be best if the owner is close to Irvine and is already planning to attend the event.

The Bimmerfest is in Santa Barbara.

Any black BMW with a neglected finish, oxidation, swirls, and scratches is a good candidate.

An older, single-stage finish works well for this kind of demo but I will consider clearcoats too.

If you think you have a good candidate, you can send me an e-mail, or call me at our toll free number.

Note: Cars missing paint, missing clear coat, or with lots of rock chips tend not to make good demo cars.

I will include with the detail a generous Gift box full of Meguiar’s products.

Thanks,

Mike Phillips

p.s.

I have detailed hundreds of mostly special interest cars, usually for the intended purpose of show or display.

Most of these cars have always been one-step away from having to be re-painted in order to restore their appearance value.

(No one ever brings me anything nice)

Sorry Mike, I would consider it even though I have a detailing business, but am in Kansas. Good luck with the search.

BTW: What are you going to be using? DACP, #9, Swirl Free, Medallion? Not in that order obviously.

First things first.

First thing I do when I detail a car is "Evaluate the Customer".

Next thing I do is evaluate the surface which starts visually, than with the hand. Next I use a film-build gauge to see how much paint is on the car.

If it passes those three tests, then... a "Test Spot".

I experiment with what it will take to make one spot flawless, always using the least aggressive product to get the job done.

Then, I repeat this to the entire car.

That is, after washing, and taping-off and removing anything that can be removed.

I usually spend 2 - 12 hour days on every car I detail, (exterior only, I don't do interiors).

So far, I have had a few candidates offered, but I'm still open for the right car.

Well I figured if it was in bad shape, then you would be using a pretty abrasive product. What is a film-build guage? It sounds interesting, but have never heard of it.
