JuNxXxReY 10-23-2007, 01:15 PM Hello all,
I was thinking about purchasing a Garmin Nuvi 760, and noticed that the FM traffic receiver was on the cigarette power adapter. Is there any way I can hardwire the cigarette power adapter so I won't have it sticking out of the socket? Has anyone ever spliced the adapter so they don't have to plug it into the cigarette lighter? Some pictures and/or instructions would greatly be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
PS, I would get the flashlight adapter, but to the best of my knowledge, the FM traffic receiver is only on the cigarette power adapter.
CaptnGeetch 10-23-2007, 02:52 PM there's a BMW part that will plug into the flashlight socket in the glovebox..that's where I have my Sirius run to. I just got a GPS so I'll be looking to split that one once I find a perm. home for the unit...haven't decided whether to mount it on a goosneck bolted to the passenger side seat yet.
for my car it was part# 82 11 0 004 073

Geetch get a Panavise mount. They usually go for 25 bucks but you can get it for less then 9 on amazon.

PS, I would get the flashlight adapter, but to the best of my knowledge, the FM traffic receiver is only on the cigarette power adapter.I have the Nuvi 780 with the Traffic Receiver integrated into the power adapter. I also have the BMW flashlight adapter. Just plug the Nuvi power adapter into the flashlight adapter and stick it all into the glovebox. Works fine.

I ended up placing mine on the lower portion of the windshield because I did not want my vents blocked or have to drill anywhere. Then I just hardwired it. The good thing about this location is that I do not have to take my eyes off the road very much and it is not a big sore spot in the middle of the windshield.

Hmm.. now thats clever... You don't leave it there when you leave the car, right?
chiefwej 10-23-2007, 08:01 PM I have a TomTom GPS (mine is the Go 300 model). It comes with maps of the entire US and Canada. Cost about $300. The neat part is this and most other TomTom's (at least 500 & 900 models mount easly in a e39.
It is setting in the right cup holder (finally a use for those things). The
base of the TomTom is a disk shape just the right size to fit. For wiring, I
ran the cable through the open cup holder and around into the back of the glove
compartment. I put an adapter in the flashlight outlet & plugged it in. That
outlet is switched w/ the ignition, so it comes on and off w/ the ignition.
It's down out of sight and looks built-in, so I don't worry much about smash
and grab. I have no outside antenna (you can add one if you like) and there is sometimes a few minutes delay getting GPS signals on start up, but otherwise works well. I can snap it out in seconds, for use in other cars or for security. If I want to pull out the
cable, it would take about a minute.
I also downloaded and installed BMW logo splash screens on start-up and shut-down
- kind of a neat touch. The whole install took me about five minutes. Here
are some pictures that shows how simple it was was.
