Yesterday I accidentally hit the wiper toggle when I turned off the car. As I came back I noticed I had done this because the wipers were stuck straight up.

Made me remember the thread about custom engineering a setup for a mono-wiper. Well, after seeing it stuck straight up like a Merc or Meclaren, I really want to do this someday.

I searched through the threads and the link to the video that was made is now broken. Does anyone have the video of the setup working??

TIA

no vids here,

but its a pretty easy diy if you have a welder. basically what you need to do is extend the small piece of metal that has the ball socket on the end, for the center wiper's linkage. you only need to extend it like 8mm and you'll get a near full sweep iirc. hth you.

You guys will get a laugh out of this! Since I bought the car it was missing a wiper arm, I just loosened the passenger arm, moved it up a foot, and tightened it. Now I get pretty full coverage. Goes to about where the mirror is on the drivers side.

^^Oh wow that is awesome!

I know some people hate the mono-arm thing.

how does it work in the rain?

The only video I know of was about 3 years ago. And the member that did it is long gone. It definitely looked way out of place.

It works great. I've had no visibility issues. Like I mentioned, I lost about a foot of coverage on each side, but it doesn't effect road visibility at all. It has been a good temporary fix until I buy another arm. But, since I don't mind it at all, it's on the bottom of my to-do list.

What would possess someone to do this?

Yeah, Benz had the mono wiper? Do they have it now? No, they don't.

I would also like to see this.

It would be nice to find a long wiper to do it with.

I 100% enjoyed the single arm on my w124, more coverage than two arms and a quicker sweep. It was golden in my book and I really miss it!

I get better vision in the rain with rainx and the the wipers off. Maybe thats why I don't care about the wipers.

We've had several Jag XJ6s and a 300e. It was just weird.

It wasn't offensive when the wiper was tucked away. But when a street car has a mono wiper midway up the windshield like a car in the BTCC it's major roffle time. :rofl

Im looking for it now and uploading it when I find it..

I want a mono wiper myself.. There used to be a thread on here with all you needed to know but it was gone after the reformat a year or two ago.

Its uploaded and youtube is processing it.. I'll edit this post with the link when its done.

Very cool, but you loose a little visibility on the drivers side at the top of the window.

I think I'll do it when I have something else for a DD, but I was also thinking about taking the wipers off at that point as I wouldn't drive it in the rain then either.. :dunno

wouldn't the winglet on the wiper cause problems on the driver's side.
