View Full Version : 1991 BMW M5 black/black e34 - $7500 - IL
Joesdiner 10-23-2007, 10:28 AM Edited: Updated info, More pics (keep scrolling through my posts) and VIN added. Carfax posted further down.
I think I bit off more than I can chew here but still am 50/50 on it. I love the e34 m5, but I don't know if I was quite ready for it.
Willing to trade for a car plus cash. Cars of equal or lesser value. I have no cash to spend. Dream come true for you guys who want to upgrade. E38 or E39 maybe Jaguar S-type. Doesn't hurt to ask.
VIN: wbshd9313mbk05847
1991 BMW M5 Black on Black
231k with 70k on a rebuild (I was told)
BBS RS Wheels. 2 wheels were cracked on the inside lip (the side facing in, so you can't see) Both are off the car and they are still sitting to be repaired. One holds air pretty good, the other will hold air a day.
Chipped (Yet to check what type/brand)
California Car, not a spec of rust. Virgin as far as snow.
Very strong engine and clutch
Was told most of front suspension/ front end was replaced
Was daily driver under previous owner and garaged.
Rear suspension replaced with bilstein
Cd player
All power functions of seats work except headrests (I hear the motor but nothing moves) Passenger sometimes catches.
No tears in leather
Just bought a new cruise control unit and alternator off ebay.
What needs attention:
Crack in windshield
Passenger seat is twisted
Front lip is sagging (just needs to be epoxied)
Hood was repainted lousy and has lots of rock chips
Passenger headlight is cracked.
Fan clutch
What I know but haven't investigated: These are all small leaks, but I like to be able to eat off all parts of my car.
Small engine oil leak is at front of engine on pass side. I took pics. Leaks power steering fluid but after a long time only emptys the reservoir, doesn't loose power steering or make noise like you'd expect. Transmission leaks a drop here and there directly on to the catalytic convertor and smells horrendous when it happens
Located in Northern IL by Rockford, about an hour from Chicago.
Quick Pics: Sorry they are lousy I work all day and just quick ran through the car wash and took some tonite. The spare is on because I am having one of the BBS's repaired.

I am open to serious offers. I don't want this car to see snow! I don't think it ever has!

Jcbe34 11-13-2007, 10:16 AM UM.. Those aren't style 5's.. those are 3 pc RS'. BIG difference. Sweet wheels. I'll trade you some style 5's for them if you want
NeonHots 11-18-2007, 03:32 PM trade for my jetta glx?
Joesdiner 11-23-2007, 03:09 AM Ok,
Sorry for keeping everyone waiting. I am going to have to re-do the whole ad so hold in there. I put the ad up quick when I was in a bad money bind but I have since recovered.
Thanks everyone for the bumps and the input. I had a feeling they weren't style 5's but since I had never owned any I just guessed.
As soon as I get back home I will post up the VIN, I am out of town right now for the holidays.
The hood, roof and trunk lid where all repainted because they were faded. The hood somehow turned out horrible. And he had said he didn't wait long enough for the paint to dry before a cross country road trip. I would probably give the trunklid a B grade. The roof was good though.
Good news and bad news. Good news is I detailed the car before the bad weather and it turned out amazing. And I got it into the garage right after :) With the front hood and fascia repainted it would be really sharp. I managed to snap a few pics with decent lighting but I am no photographer. I will get those up soon for everyone.
Bad news is that the dang thing is growing on me. Though I don't think I am worthy yet and if I keep it, I will have to drive it this winter (my 3000gt is already in winter storage) The body will just suffer in the midwest winter and I don't know if I can do it.
I will probably get start fixing whats wrong with it. It is just hard to not fix things, it just becomes an itch. Especially when its simple things.
I will try and get compression numbers etc.
I would consider a trade for a e34 540/6 that was a daily driver and I wouldn't be afraid to drive in the midwest weather plus some $
Jcbe34 11-23-2007, 09:34 AM hmm.. I've got a 540i/6 that I would consider trading. What the body like on your car as far as dents/dings? My cars has all original hellrot paint, few dings.. 130k miles, alusil block, new plugs, intake gaskets, most front end components(still need to do thrust arms, as it has a slight shimmy as well). Let me know if your interested
Black Belt M3 11-24-2007, 08:54 PM PMd you.

Joesdiner 12-11-2007, 08:15 PM If anyone wants pictures of particular things let me know.
It still hasn't gone out in the snow/salt/nasty. I really don't want to use it this winter but all my "fun" money is tied up in this.
Why is the trim silver???
eternalb 12-12-2007, 08:57 PM did you ever get those compression numbers. And idk if you posted these but can we see the problem with the passenger seat, the windshield, and headlight.
Joesdiner 12-13-2007, 12:57 AM I'll work on getting compression numbers.
jrcurt 12-14-2007, 08:25 AM Good luck with sale.
Joesdiner 12-22-2007, 06:17 PM Is there genuine interest in the car? If there is, I am going to go get compression numbers after Christmas. Otherwise I am just probably going to keep the car.
I can't tell between curious and potential buyers.

I've been waiting for the numbers to pop up. Looks like plenty of people are asking questions. Questions=interest. 2 pages already.
I have 2 big ticket toys for sale. I'd like to have the activity with my stuff that you have with yours. I have paid adds going on with mine.
asuj158 01-02-2008, 05:21 AM still for sale?
indierthanthou 01-02-2008, 06:27 PM I gotta know....why are you selling it so cheap?
Joesdiner 01-03-2008, 06:56 PM Still for sale. Its going to cost $250 for the compression check at the only reputable shop around here. I will probably do one myself but the temps here have been -6 F and I havent started the car since the temps have been under 30 F. If anyone is near by, I have nothing to hide and anyone is welcome to look at it.
The reason it is cheap is because of the work it needs. I feel it is a excellent price, just a bad time to sell. I definately feel if someone put a little money into this car, it would definately be a gem. It is completely unmolested and unmodified. The chip was just recent as well as the uuc knob and short shifter done by me. The previous owner was a woman from California. If you saw the car you would definately know that it was well kept and the only enemy was father time.
Also I think I am going to be willing to be pretty open to trades and cash. I really want this to go to an enthusiant who will bring it back. It just needs very little. I just need something normal for now, I don't think I was ready. I already have 2 cars that need too much attention. I'll have to return to my e34 addiction another time. This would be a great chance for all those who want to upgrade, this is a dream come true.
Looking for any of these cars of equal value or lesser value plus cash. Must be mechanically sound. I don't care about miles if the car was cared for.
Jaguar S-type
E38 96-up 7-series. Maybe an alusil 95.
e39 5 series (A 540/6 would be real nice)
And this is a shot in the dark, but if someone is a BMW tech, my 4.4i X5 needs about $1500 or more worth of stupid repairs which are mostly labor and i would be willing to subtract it off the car.
asuj158 01-03-2008, 07:00 PM How about a 318i convertible plus some cash?
Joesdiner 01-10-2008, 10:50 PM How about a 318i convertible plus some cash?
I definately appriciate the offer, but I don't think that car is for me. Thanks for the interest!
1badgvr4 01-17-2008, 12:13 AM How about a 1991 Mitsubishi Galant vr4.Only 3000 inported to the us.4g63 turbo, all wheel drive 4 wheel steering.Motor just been rebuilt with upgraded turbo, intercooler and exhaust. It's 1299/2000 for 91.black leather too.it wouldn't hurt to ask I guess. It would be a dream come true lol.
chuckhead 01-28-2008, 03:31 PM i have interest, but i am in new york. is this m5 not suitable for a daily driver? (ie, too finicky like the e30 m3's ... too expensive to fix, etc?)... also, what is the price you are currently asking for it? (i have no trade, so cash buyer)

What type of work is it in need of?

:lol
Joesdiner 02-12-2008, 03:35 AM Sorry for some reason I wasnt updated that people had posted in the thread.
1badgvr4 - I do like galant vr-4's I almost bought one just a while back, but again also a car that needs attention and care. I am just looking for something I put the key in for now because I have enough cars that need too much attention lol. Thanks for the offer though!
tsweers89- I PM'ed you.
kxmills - ? Its the regular back seat, with the exception of the ski bag and headrests
I really thought this would have been snatched up quick. The car is fine to drive, the previous owner drove it daily and so was I. The little leaks are small I am just extremely anal and just wanted the next owner to know. The car starts instantly everytime, even after sitting for a month. I know the compression is good, the engine runs very strong and always asks for more, on the freeway its easy to get lost in the triple digits and it just wants more.
