Hi, my 90 535i does not have the front speakers working. The rear shelf speakers work great and are nice and clear. I am not using the stock amp, I have an aftermarket sony deck which has wiring for 4 speakers only, the two front dash spkrs and the rear shelves. The speakers are wired using household speaker wire running from the deck (all done by PO). I would assume if the front speakers are shot it would still make some sort of sound.

does anyone have any insight for me? ;)

thanks

First, check the fade. If not, you prolly have a short or a loose wire somewhere. I would check the back of the speakers themselves first. then the back of the head unit. Sounds like a short though since both fronts aren't working. There's my .02.

Check that you have the correct polarity connection from amp to speaker also. On my klipsch in the house if I don't track it correctly and neg is hooked to positive I won't hear anything. Just a thought.

Polarity will not have anything to do with the speakers not playing, neither will a blown out or shorted speaker.

A shorted speaker or blown speaker would put the internal sony amp into protection and shut down all the speakers. If the speakers are wired directly to the deck and they do not work, i would assume they have blown out or have become disconnected.

Check your connections at the speakers and test them with a battery, signal generator, or another amp.
