Hey guys. Building a track-prepped E30 with an M50/Getrag 5-speed swap. I'm at ordering engine/tranny mounts and have a question: Are the E36 mounts usable in the E30 chassis (engine/tranny)?? I'm looking at these from TMS: Turner Motorsport - Item# TDR9980001 - E46/E36/Z3 Solid Motor and Transmission Mount Kit - E36 E46 (http://www.turnermotorsport.com/html/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=TDR9980001)

Do you guys have any other suggestions?

Swap cars usually use the E28 535 (IIRC- whatever model they are green) mounts. I am working on installing some Vorshlag mounts to my car (E30 with a Euro 3.2, but the mount issues are similar/identical I think). I need to add one piece to the procedure to make the mounts sit a bit more flush. The only thing I had to do to one mount was grind the top at a different angle. I am going to try to finish it this week and post some pics.

For the tranny, I bought the UUC red race mounts.

I don't think there is any off the shelf solution for swap cars for solid motor mounts. I would not try solid metal motor mounts...I just don't think they will work.

I used the e34m5 mounts in mine, then i had solid aluminum ones made. Custom one off pieces with the trans mounts too! was pretty pimp

They don't have the right ones, last time I checked

This is a popular swap and once we have the prototypes back form gobuffs (thanks for your help!) we will get some production S/M50-to-E30 motor mounts made in Nylon and/or Polyurethane.

I run a Getrag 260 (E30 325 'box) behind my 3.0 M50 and use the following mounts:

Engine: E28 535i on both sides.
Transmission: M10 engine mount (Driver side) and 635csi tranny mount (Passenger)
--Slight modification (Cut/weld) of the tranny brace was required to get the tranny mount setup to work.
--I've put 80,000 hard miles on it since doing the swap 5 years ago, with plenty
of trackwork and no problems to speak of.

The problem didn't present itself until I went with the DTM replica shifter which is hard mounted to the tranny tunnel and has a double shear shifter rod.

Gobuffs--

Do you have pictures of this shifter setup? Link to retailer?

Thanks,
Stu

A few places sell things like this. Search S14 for "DTM shifter" and you will find lots of posts. Places that sell it: AKG Motorsport (Chicago), Markus from Germany, Muzzi in Germany.

Hereis AKG's website with it...first thing ont he page. http://akgmotorsport.com/e30products.html
