It will change depending on what size wheels they are running (16, 17, 18, 19, etc). You should be measuring from the center of the roundel to the fender lip. That is the constant you should compare. Armonk25 10-24-2007, 01:40 PM The measurement to the highest point on the front fensder opening from the ground is 26 1/8 inches. By the way my car is an 02 540iT Sport running OEM BMW 17 inch wheels and 235/45 R17 and the tires only have about 2000 miles on them. Hope this helps. Just curious. mookish 10-24-2007, 09:22 PM That's how the stock height is measured. 12CoolDude 10-25-2007, 12:32 AM From my understanding, if you want an accurate comparison, you should measure from the center of the fender arch to the bottom of the wheel rim, car in "Normal Loaded Position" (Each front seat-68kg/150lbs., center of rear seat-68kg/150lbs., trunk-21kg/46lbs., fuel tank-FULL) , specified tires and wheels w/correct tire pressure, even wear AND correct wheel bearing play...taken directly from the bible (Bentley Brick). If you have the bricks...errr, books, you can find the info on page 300-14/15 in Volume One. My 540iA has 17" so Standard is 607mm (23.9")/Sports is 587mm (23.1")/Rough Road is 627mm (24.7")/M Sports is 590mm (23.2")...hope this is useful info. crombo97 10-25-2007, 04:03 AM Thanks everyone!! I've got it sorted now I needed a stock height to get some front coils custom made. That height changes depending on wheel diameter. :rolleyes 1/2" higher for every upsize in wheel dia. If you're measuring heights of different suspensions, you have to go from the center of the hub - hence my original statement. The point I was making is not to measure to the roof (mookish's post) and not to blindly measure from ground to fender lip - both wrong. Either measure from bottom of rim to fender well and adjust for wheel diameters or from center of hub to fender lip if comparing suspensions of more than one car - no adjustments to be made then. If anyone wants a complete set of all ride height measurements for the 540 (every variation), PM me - it's too big to post here. The image is like 3000 something pixels tall. |
