Hi, ive got a UK imported E34 M5 (1988). long story short the guy who bought it hit something on the road and cracked the sump and oil leaked. he drove it for 2-3 mins after.
i bought the car with bottom end bearings out of it and sump off the car.
when i went to put the bearings back on i noticed that the numbers written on the rod to match the bearing to them, some of them were on the exhaust side and i think a couple on the other side. anyways i matched them anyways.
when i started the car, there was a bit of a "hitting" sound like when tappets are noisy due to no oil but the car didnt start. after that time the car is not starting. seems like there is no compression.
questions:
1) do the numbers on the rods have to be all on the same side? and if yes, which one ?
2) by putting them the way i did, could that have led to bending of the valves? and the hitting noise was bending of valves.
3) could it be anything else?

thanks and sorry for long post

You might find more S38 knowledge within www.M5Board.com 's E34 M5 Section.

Ditto the previous post. www.m5board.com (http://www.m5board.com) is to e34M5 cars what this board is to all e34 cars. Plus most of the posters over there are from Europe.

Good luck!
