How's it going all. Just picked up my first bimmer at an auction for what i think was a great deal, but I'll let you experts decide....

1991 525i 110,000mi, mint condition, second paint job, all original interior, leather is in awsome shape (i'll post pics soon).

Cost: 2700$

Anyway, also just finished up my first tank, and did 403mi. Does anyone know the fuel tank capacity? I think its 20 gal, but I could be wrong.
How does that mileage compare to the rest of you?

I'm totally excited to be driving this thing...so far so good...no electricals..ooops..I spoke to soon....There is one thing....I can't seem to get the factory radio to work...it keeps asking for the code, which was written down on a piece of paper that was given to me when I got the car. Is there some trick to entering theat5 digit number?

Thanks everyone.

I got a similiar deal -- 1992 525i w/ 112000 miles. second paint job too but it is black so it already looks pretty worn, interior was nice. I think i get about 380... i think the tank is right around 20 but I have never gotten the tank all the way down to do a complete fill up.

I think the owners manual say that its a 21 gallon tank or something, i get around 460 miles before i finally crack and fill up, so that seams about right.

About the code, I can never enter mine in correctly. I have to take it to someone who knows what they're doing and they get it the first time. :rofl

If you've entered the code wrong you need to turn the key to position 1 and let it sit for an hour to reset. After an hour come back and enter the code.

If it really is in mint condition, I'd say that's a great deal, indeed.

I'll check my manual tomorrow, but IIRC, the tank is 21.2 gallons (80 liters). That lasts me ~350-410 miles, depending on how much of that is traffic jams, loafing on small highways, or bombing big ones. I once put in something like 20.6 gallons, but rarely more than 18.5 or so.

As for the radio...get an aftermarket one. The stock ones don't sound bad, but they seem to have a lot of reliability issues. But if you need the code, I believe the dealer can get them based on your VIN. Someone else will have a better answer, I'm sure.

about 21 seems right... the most I have ever filled up has been 19.6 gallons...

I once got over 500 miles on one tank of gas, and that was in my big 6 loaded to the gills with all my crap, doing 80mph. I went from Cheyanne, WY to Council Bluffs, IA without stopping. Yup, that's all the way across NE, and resulted in mileage of 25mpg. It took over 20 gallons when I filled her up. Absolutely fantastic automobiles.

What on earth did you do to your engine to squeeze 25mpg out of it? Mine does that at 60, maybe.
