View Full Version : Engine's out, anything I need to do?
This will sound kind of dumb, but we pulled my motor today in the shop. Getting things prettied up, new motor mounts, fixing a weird exhaust issue.
Is there anything I should tackle real quick? I can't think of any mechanical things that need replaced, most checks out, but what worn out items should I grab while its easy to get?

Water pump, accessory drive belts, tensioners, rear main seal, trans input shaft seals
miroxz 10-22-2007, 09:32 PM in addition to w/p & belts...i would inspect/do the timing chain cover gaskets, upper & lower oil pan gaskets. service (clean) air intake & MAF you will regret it later if you haven't already done them.:shifty :stickoutt

Jcbe34 10-22-2007, 09:47 PM I would do the power steering pressure lines.. Don't know how much easier they would be but damn they are a B!TCH with the motor in.

might as well....since it's out
-rear main seal... check.
-pressure lines... not check... dont have the time as the car needs back together by wednesday at the latest.
-all belts are new
-timing chain was checked
-MAF is a great idea *duh*
-I don't have the gaskets for the oilpan. What are the cons of not replacing an old one? I'll be scared to see any bolts or anything in there

Serious? You need measurements, or are you just playing?
Twin remote turbos on m60 ftw.

The lower oil pan gasket is easy to do in the car or out. Chances are you will find a loose bolt in your pan from your oil pump. Buy some loctite and coat the bolt before you thread it back in. TRUST ME! I put an oil pump bolt back in without loctite and after about 15kmi the bolt loosened back out again.
eightynine535 10-23-2007, 12:20 AM power wash empty engine bay perhaps?

gunk, rinse,
simple green + pressure wash.
Pretty much covered already.
Tensioners as said... You don not want ot be like me and have one decide o divorce your engine while you are driving down the road... Was kind of funny to see it in the rear view however.
miroxz 10-23-2007, 11:19 AM Dear "duh"
the great idea was the timing cover gaskets & oil pan gasket/s. the lower one is a piece of cake,...the upper is a royal pain in the butt...involving dropping exhaust and manipulating transm...
good luck..sounds like you have the list...how are your spark plug gaskets, and valve cover?
cheers
