View Full Version : Seibon Seats
deeda 10-22-2007, 03:44 PM Anyone run these?
Got a great deal on them. Just did searches for them and nothing came up. Looking for a what to look for installing them kinda deal. First time I have seen these installed was in a S2000, and he said it was a pain.

grydemon 10-22-2007, 04:21 PM I looked at them, but they are not an approved race seat...
upperguy 10-22-2007, 04:23 PM The only thing I could see being difficult would be fabbing a bracket, it looks like a standard side mount but even if you had to weld tabs it can be done by anyone with experience and a welder:)
if you still have access to the deal hit me up with a PM! I would like a set of CF seats for my mini
http://www.seiboncarbon.com/ - note that they make hoods and trunks and tops for S2000s. Oh, and seats. :D

no pricing on their website??
http://group5motorsport.com/seibon/bseatkbfc/bseat-k-b-fc/i-83709.aspx shows them at $720/each
No sizing (one size fits all?) or weight information can be easily found on these seats. No FIA approval = "you are on your own".
Good luck...
Greg S 10-22-2007, 05:37 PM Hmmm, FIA approval prices without the FIA approval sticker. Seems like a lose-lose deal to me.
i love how SEIBON never discloses weight for any of their products
CaracasE30 10-22-2007, 05:43 PM Not being FIA approved just makes this product completely out of the question, at least for me anyways.
I am not trying to knock these seats - even without the FIA approval (which is only required for club/pro racing) they could be worthwhile to some - but with zero weight/sizing data and a price equalling Cobra Kevlar seats... ???
http://www.motorsportseats.com/cobra/suzuka.html - Kevlar Cobra Suzuka MSRP $689. FIA 8855-1999, sizing/weights (http://www.motorsportseats.com/cobra/dimensions.html).
deeda 10-23-2007, 01:27 AM Gee I thought 450 a seat was pretty cheap...
I found a weight for them, but I'll be damned if I can find it.

Hmm... at $450 they are pretty cheap. :) Was that price for a new seat? Not bad. What came with them at that price?
$450 is especially good if they are as strong and as light as some other Kevlar seats (the Cobra Suzuka is 19#, not exactly super light but they are strong and comfortable). No FIA certification hurts them for club racing use but not everyone is a club racer.
Hopefully they use the same side-mount bolt pattern as Sparco or Cobra or something popular, so you can get commonly available mounts easily. Making mounts from scratch is a royal PITA.
When you get them in yoru hands please weigh them and post here.
Thanks,
Why is that so. Get a 5mm thick aluminium universal mount with adjustment holes. If it doesn fit drill a few extra holes to make it fit, done :)
That's what I used to directly mount my seat to the floor.
jamesclay 10-23-2007, 10:46 AM The SEMA show is full of imported seats that any of the manufacturing companies will private label. If I am putting my butt in it on the racetrack, I want the sticker on it from FIA. Call me old fashioned.

Thanks,
Yeah they are new....including sidemounts and sliders
And once they are here I will post the weights on them
Greg S 10-23-2007, 04:25 PM the Cobra Suzuka is 19#, not exactly super light but they are strong and comfortable
17lbs for the normal, 19lbs for the GT(wider).
Either way I don't think weight should play a role in which seat you choose, buy what's comfortable and FIA approved. All quality seats are within about a 10lbs range reaching the extremes of each end of the spectrum.
EDIT-Now it's time for the mod racers to come in and comment on how much weight 10lbs is ;) .
deeda 11-01-2007, 03:49 PM Ok they came today....

phoenixE36 11-01-2007, 07:10 PM I've used some Seibon seats in a couple cars and they're really nice. I'd like to hear what the difference between an FIA legal and non-FIA legal seat is.. Sparco makes seats that aren't FIA certified and people buy those. I do know that (for racing) non-FIA seats need a seat-back brace, while FIA seats don't. Other than that, I'm curious what the differences are. I've seen a Corbeau FIA seat break in half, so I'm lost..
