Ok, so here's the deal.

On my 1994 525it, I have started having a temperature problem. I'll try to describe it with as much detail as possible.

Late last week, I noticed the temp needle moving past the halfway point while I was sitting in some heavy, slow traffic. Outside ambient temps were mid to upper 70s. As I picked up speed, the temp needle went back down. BUT, in the meantime, while I sat there, I started cranking the heat to try and assist cooling it off. The heat was functional, which seems to suggest that the water pump is not the culprit. (Am I thinking correctly?)

I did not have a chance to look at it over the weekend. Today, it started to creep up over half again, but it seemed that speeding up on the highway actually had the opposite effect, it only pushed the needle higher, and when I stopped when exiting the highway, the needle went back down.

So now I am confused.

THe following may be totally red herring info, but I'll throw it out there as it is HVAC related and who knows, may have some connection to this.

Since I got the car in August, whenever I would turn off the a/c, there would be a clicking type noise that seemed to come from the area behind the driver side dash/firewall. Now, on these recent instances when I have been turning on the heat, I get another noise from that area, a fairly annoying buzz.

Soooo . . .

Anyone have any ideas?

I have on hand a new thermostat and an aluminum housing and related gaskets. I also have a used, but known good, fan clutch. If I am correct that the water pump is good, then the only other things I think I need to look at are the radiator and the electrical cooling fan and its switch.

I dont think I have an air pocket, but I'll try bleeding the system first before I start swapping parts.

Thanks for any insight anyone might have here.

Well it should only be three things: Water Pump, Thermostat and Electric Fan Issues. I would recommend checking and replacing those three things first! If at all possible hook it up to the scan tool and see where the temp is at also. Let me know what you find!

Also is there any air in the system?

Dunno, but I am going to try to bleed it first.
