I have a 93 E34 and on any good road everything is perfect, smooth and straight as can be.

But when I'm on a bumpy road or yesterday I was on a washboard dirt road and the wheel shake is crazy. Can anyone tell me what this could be possibly be related with?

THX,

unbalanced wheels or faulty thrust arm bushing. or you can just try going onto smoother road, it'll take care of the bumpiness.

Well, with mine pretty much anything with a ball joint needs some attention as it turns out. In the past week I've replaced my tires, rotors, and thrust arms. Still shakin' but not as bad. I jacked 'er up and gave the wheels a shake and did some looking around. Lot's of play in the outer tie rod ball joints, especially on the left side. That would explain why it's silky smooth in turns but a bit wobbly going straight. Hit a bump or pothole and it's a horror show for a few seconds until the car unfucks itself. Ordered new tie rod assemblies. it looks like I could get by just doing the outer tie rod ends but what the hell. Not much more expensive to do the whole things and it's a pretty simple job. I'm also going to change the sway bar links while I'm down there. The boots on those ball joints are showing some age. My lower control arms look good.
