Hi all, very interested in actually using my car for what it's for.
i looked around and found no sticky's for the guy that wants to try this out for the first time.
I live in SoCal and would like to track my 99 M3 with basic bolt on mods.
what to do?

1. Join the BMW CCA :)
2. Attend driving schools
3. Attend more driving schools
4. Put money into 'maintenance' items, like bushings, bearings, tie-rods, filters, hoses, radiator etc
5. Attend more schools
6. Consider, cold air intake, M50 intake manifold, ecu re-flash, better brake pads, lighter wheels while you reflect on how much better a driver you are now than the guys who spent $$ on go-fast goodies, and didn't go any faster.

5.5 Listen to your instructors and their advice. I have found their advice extremely valuable and timely as to when I need various changes/"upgrades"
5.6 do more schools
5.7 when considering some "upgrade" just do more schools

BMWCCA driving schools are great. There are also several good organizations that put on High Performance Driving Events (HPDE). Many provide instructors for novices such as yourself. Maybe some of your socal track nuts will chime in with names and contact info. I'm familiar with and instruct for several up north.

In Socal, you have 3 BMW CCA Chapters that run schools within a reasonable distance.
LA, San Deigo and Central Chapters. They use Buttonwillow, Willow Springs and California Speedway.
National AutoSport Association (N.A.S.A) also run schools at Willow Springs and Buttonwillow.
Driving Concepts also use BW, WS and Cal. Speedway.
These 3 offer one-to-one instruction, altho NASA only offers this at the Novice (Grp. 1) level.
