Hi there folks,

Firstly I'm new to the forum so in effect this is my first question so be gentle :) I also appologise if this has been raised before but I have searched and couldn't find any previous reference.

I have been experiencing some difficulties with my E39 530D Because of this I have been trying to do some basic diagnostics myself which has resulted in me getting hold of a copy of CarSoft 6.5 and a generic type cable.

All have been linked up to the vehicle which has resulted in the following code being pulled:

1e25 or 25 if you like.

I was just wondering is there any way of converting this code into something I can actually understand ? Maybe I have missed something but this code doesn't appear to correspond to anything I have read about so far (I.e. too short for DTC and not valid for anything else)

This code has also been pulled from another devices (at a garage, a non BMW specialist) but again no further information could be found from that either. I'm sorry I don't have any details on the other device which found this code :(

If anyone could point me in the right direction I would be most greatful.

Cheers,

- Probs

Which Carsoft module pulled this code?

How do,

I'm not entirely sure, it was in the same screen as an error for the traction control light if thats any help. I would go and have a second look but all the gear is at work at the moment :(

Sorry for being so vague.

You didnt specify engine or tranny code it is,but here is what Autodata says:
If it's transmission code:
ECM/TCM communication-maximum RPM exceeded;probable cause- wiring,ECM
If it's engine code:
EOBD P0:
Camshaft position(CMP),exhaust rigt rear,bank 2-timing over retarded;probable cause valve timing,engine mechanical fault
There are also EOBD P2 and EOBD U0 codes,I can writhe them down for you later.

Hi folks,

Thanks for your time on this one. The engine code is M57 (530 Diesel) manual gearbox the code for which I am not sure.

I am reasonably sure this code is to do with the camshaft position sensor (as disconnecting it causes the same code) but thanks for the information.

Where did you manage to get those codes from by the way ? I don't have the Bentley manual but am assuming they are available from that.

Cheers once again,

I dont think you can find the codes in the Bentley manual.I have an Autodata, program with a lot of useful data for all bmw and other models, very good for electric staff.I think I can find procedures to test the CMP.
