I have an 1984 325e that suddenly started having a mind of its own. It drives fine but when it warms up it starts surging by itself. Its as if I was sitting there reving the throttle. I changed the Thermostat as someone suggested..no help, I removed the Idle stabilizer valve and did a hot jump from the battery and viewed that the plunger works. When I unplug the two prong contact from it there is no change in the idle.....I am not sure if it is still the idle stabilizer, the idle control module or the throttle control unit or something else.....Please help if anyone knows

Intake leak, ICV or ICM, or a combination thereof.

when I disconnect the ICV while running there is no change to the RPMs but when I attached jumpers to the terminals the piston worked ..could it still be bad?

check the elbow on the intake, a crack in the underside is common and create a nasty nasty idle. From around 2500 Rpms to Stalling...
