View Full Version : How did the forum get screwed up and why no discussion or warning?

New posts seemed to appear and then disappear, and then I found the sub-forums.

What is supposed to be posted under the "M6 & 6 Series (e24,e63.e64)" heading?? Or is that where I'm supposed to post for my 1987 since the sub-forum is only for "(e24) 1979 - 1985"?? :D

Why are the old e24 posts still under the "M6 & 6 Series (e24,e63.e64)" heading?? If you select the "M6 & 6 Series (e24,e63.e64)" heading in the search box will the search function search both it and the e24 sub-forum, or so you have to search both?

I 'm guessing that newbies just joining will be posting under the "M6 & 6 Series (e24,e63.e64)" main heading and judge the forum to be non-responsive because the regulars will bookmark direct to the sub-forums and never see or respond to their posts. :rolleyes :) ..... that's where I've been for days wondering what was wrong. :rolleyes :D

I would suggest that all of the posts be moved to the e24 sub-forum and then do a quick search to turn up most of the e63/e64 posts to be moved to their sub-forum. Then the "New Thread" button should be removed or disabled under the "M6 & 6 Series (e24,e63.e64)" heading. The "M6 & 6 Series (e24,e63.e64)" heading would either be left empty or it could then be used as a search display showing all of the "newest" posts from all of the sub-forums, but new posts can only be make to their respective sub-forum. (The latter would have the biggest positive impact in a forum like the 5-series).

Well, ya know. We are a dynamic bunch here, always moving around, trying to keep the compitition guessing. :rolleyes

I think that it should have been split into two main forums instead of 2 subforums. This just makes things all the more complicated.

I think it's great to separate out the current 6, but who decided to leave out the '86-'89. That's most of us!! and both my cars. presumably we still belong with the '79-85 group.

I agree with Acorn, It makes no sense to have the two sub-forums arranged as they are. If you have an original Six, you post in the e24 sub-forum (probably bookmark straight there) and if you have a new six, you post in the e63/e64 sub-forum. Just who is left to post in the Main forum?????

No, Acorn is right, it should be two Main forums, this would definitely be the best solution.

But if there are requirements for main form status and there is not enough traffic to justify a main forum for the e63/e64, then it could be left as a single sub -forum until there is enough traffic and the e24 posts returned to the main forum and the e24 sub forum deleted.

PS: smiller, they are squabbling over the years here: http://bigcoupe.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=37088#37088

Ahh huh! that's why we were left out (86 to 89)!! So that there would be someone left to post out there on the main forum!! :D:cool

I've already seen newbies post under the main heading (both e24 and e63/64 cars), not realizing that everyone is in the one of the subforums. What is really strange, is that several of those posts have disappeared from there, never to be seen again??

I think it is great that the e63/e64 have their own forum, but it should be two main forums, not sub-forums!

Even if it remains two sub-forums, something should be done about the label. According to the header, my car never existed. Plus I doubt all of us are "those traveling, wealthy executives."

Nothing has really changed...folks are posting as if their was never any change...80+ post on the e24 sub-forum and 3 post on the e63/4 sub-forum.
