View Full Version : New Englanders: FI or NA
99E36 10-18-2007, 08:21 PM I can't decide and I'm torn between a Forced Induction or Naturally Aspirated setup. This is for a 99' M3 that has 45K miles. The cars in MINT shape. The indecisiveness is between the following:
1. Active Autowerke's C-38 Stage 1 Kit
2. Turner Motorsport's Stage 4 Kit
Any input would be helpful. Thanks.
///M3Augy 10-18-2007, 08:25 PM Go turbo, Technique Tuning Stage 2. You will never look back, insane quality and an amazing tune, you can't go wrong with this kit...
99E36 10-18-2007, 08:27 PM Turbo...uhmmm.
woh...that kit's almost 8K. No thanks. Let's keep this as close to 4 as possible.
S.A.B. 10-18-2007, 08:39 PM Screw FI and NA...real men get midgets to pull them around in jets.

///M3Augy 10-18-2007, 08:44 PM So you want to spend around 4K? Whats your power goal?
For 4K you could piece together a kit, but then comes the price of tuning...
I would go with a stage 2 AA C38 stage 1 kit...
You will definitely want more power so you can always upgrade to the stage 2, then a 3 inch exhaust/M50 manifold...
99E36 10-18-2007, 08:49 PM I'm not really looking to hit any numbers...the cars a daily driver, so anything that's reliable and holds up is mostly what I'm looking for. I won't/can't get into numbers game because it's always disappointing and completely dependent on so many variables.
You know what...the TT Stage 1 Turbo Kit looks real nice as well. But even then...$6,800 without installation. Damn!!
AA C-38 Stage 1...then maybe in the long run upgrade to Stage 2?

I'd say go the C38 Stage 1 and in the future the stage 2 upgrade...with an M50 manifold and the stage 2 you should be around 365-380whp which would be pretty sweet. I almost bought the TT stage 2, and C38 stage 2, I am still stuck in limbo...IDK where to spend my moneyz.:(

iamhydrogen 10-19-2007, 03:22 PM Isn't this the car that you purchased two months ago with a s/c installed that you promptly removed a few weeks later? What's made you decide to reconsider FI? I seem to remember you saying that you were not a fan of blown bmw's and wanted the car to be NA. :help
I bought the car for the car...not for the supercharger. Besides, I'm not a big fan of forced induction on BMW's. If I were to mod the car, I'd pursue the NA route.
///M3Augy 10-19-2007, 03:30 PM :rofl2 Yea WTF is going on here..

The the more and more I spend time looking at the best possible NA route, the more and more I feel the money isn't well spent. So, I'm re-considering the FI route again, but with a more updated package. The ERT kit that was installed when I purchased the car was a bit out-dated. I was using the stock injectors and running like 3psi of boost. It just wasn't for me.
I think the NA route would be best for what I do on a daily basis. So, the Turner Kit it will be.
