I've emailed Jim about my setup. I chose the Mille Miglia 11-2's. I decided to go with 17x8 rims rather than 18 inch ones. I also decided to go with 235/40/17 at all four corners. Going with anything larger in the front, would cause problems. I was wavering back and forth between the S03's, the Kumho MX's, and the Toyo Proxes T1-S.
I was doing some research and came across the Goodyear F1 GS-D3. From what I understand, these tires are highly recommended in Europe for European cars; but, they are not as well-known in the U.S. They are cheaper than the S03's but more expensive than the Kumho MX's; so, I may end up regretting this purchase -- however, I'm pretty sure if I do not like them, I can replace them with something else at tirerack. Everything was purchased at tirerack, and I'll have to kick George's ass if I do not like these tires. He really liked them compared to the S03's....he just believes that everyone always says S03's...but 80% of the people have never even owned S03's ... yet, they bash other tires. George is one of their reps.
I was comforted by Jim's message below -- HEY, if the owner of tirerack uses my rims AND Jim thinks these tires are comparable to the S03 in wet and dry, that's good to know. I like being able to use more than just ONE BRAND or ONE tire. Just another option for you guys out there.
I would have gone with the Kumho MX's probably, like most people here; but, since I am going non-staggered. I can rotate my rear tires to the front; thus, this would also allow me to spend more money on tires if these are rotateable.
I'll let you know tread wear; but, George says these tires will wear better than the S03's. The tread pattern on the F1 GS-D3's remind me of the tread pattern on the Toyo Proxes. The toyo's have some mean ass tread patterns...it just looks like it would be awesome.
James, The Mille Miglia wheels are also German TUV approved and a high quality wheel. The owner of our company has them on a M5 currently and they look real nice on the car.
The GSD3 faired very well in our tire test. I thought they were comparable to the S03 in both wet and dry.
P.S -- the rims were ONLY $145. That's a GREAT price !!! So, if you are thinking of using a set for track/winter use. I would definitely suggest this. That was one of my concerns and George and Jim both say that it's a great deal. The rim is strong and fairly lightweight (lighter than OEM at least)!
