Think about getting new gaskets for the lower timing cover and a new oil seal.

Donate plasma and buy a water pump. Ebay your computer parts, etc:D It is really a good thing to get one. Not from Bav auto ($$) but from autohausaz.com or other online source. Same parts as OEM but better priced, and you have a choice (usually) of cheaper to more expensive.

Other than this, you have your bases covered it sounds like. Dont forget sealant for the upper timing cover to head mating surface..

You will also want new copper nuts and new studs for the exhast manifold since the ones in there will likey be fused to the old copper nuts and come out. You will probably want a bunch of new nuts for the intake manifold. I would toss on a new thermostat as well.

I did this exact job (although we had to rebuild the head because of bent valves) and it's not too horrible, although JRWperformance was doing all the hard work while I worked on the easy stuff and ran around taking pictures of him working.

Oh, it must be different for the 323i. My 320i head gasket set didn't come with either. I had to get the lower engine gasket set also.

The exhaust gaskets on the e30 M20 head are better because they have the heat shield to protect the plug wires and loom. I used those on my car when I did the head.
