Rolyf 10-17-2007, 06:17 PM Well sort of. My car is on the M/V Aida about 300 miles offshore and heading for Newark, NJ (Port Newark, which is shown as New York on the schedule). The Aida was built in 2006 in Korea and flies the Swedish flag for the Wallenius Wilhemsen line. It grosses 61,000 tons and carries up to 6,700 cars. The Aida is normally contracted as a carrier for BMW, but may carry other marques as well. She's about 600 feet long and has a 33 ft draft loaded. The diesel engine generates 21000 HP at...unbelievably...105 rpm. That's correct 105 rpm and usually runs slower pushing the single screw.
I picked the car up in Munich and drove it for a week in Austria and Bavaria, a German 'state'. Hated to give it up at the end but knew we'd soon meet again.
Left her with Harms (Munich) on 26 Sept. and here it is 3 weeks later and the car will be in the US (scheduled to roll off onto dry land on 18 Oct.)
My CA has basically been worthless when it comes to tracking. I found out how to do it by reading posts on this site and the E90 Forum. Harms said figure delivery in 6 weeks but had seen it in less than four. A lot depends on US Customs who very carefully check ED cars for the usual drugs and wmd's.

Hello "Rolyf":
And good luck on that ED problem.

Man that old joke has moss on it now. NM, I thought that if you chimed in you'd have the HP figure converted to KW or similar. Maybe the RPM in scientific notation. How about knots converted to mph, or kph? Anyway, good to see your byline.

Hello "Rolyf":
Indeed, it is a bit old, but then so am I.
Just for fun, 1 hp = 746 watts. 1 knot = 1.1508 mph = 0.51444 meters/sec.
Next time, ask for something interesting, like becquerels, fermis, grays, or even kips.
(So many degrees, so little time left...)

I suppose I could do a guesstimate on kips given cylinder dia. and crank throw, but how the heck do the other measurements factor???

Hello "Rolyf":
I guess if you knew the cylinder pressure, dia. and crank throw you might be able to do an estimate on force in kips, or Newtons, but I don't think that is what you intended. As far as the other units, they do not factor directly, but they are interesting.
