Hi,

I placed my order for an 08 335i convertible this past weekend. I think production starts in Nov. and I get my car around the 2nd week of Dec. Not an ideal time to get a convertible in NoVA, but hey, I get to breathe in the new car scent before putting the top down, right?

Here are the options I added on:

Cold Weather Package
Premium Package
Sport Package
STEPTRONIC Automatic Transmission
Active Steering
Paddle Shifters
Navigation System
Comfort Access
Park Distance Control
iPod/USB adapter

The colors are Alpine White, Saddle brown leather, and darl burl.

I'm still not 100% sure on the color combo. What do you guys think?

I'm also deciding if I want the Sirius and HD radio added on. How is the signal in the DC metro area?

Thanks for any advice you can give me. I will be sure to keep this thread updated!

Sounds like a nice color combo. As long as you like, thats what counts. While you are sitting around waiting for delivery, think about buying some snow tires. If you have another car that you are planning on using in the snow, then forget the snow tires. LOL

Kim,

I will be picking up my 335 coupe on saturday and it is sapphire metallic black with saddle brown interior. I don't think you can go wrong with your combo but from pictures I have seen, Alpine white looks really sharp with either the gray or the black interior. Gray seems to soften the interior which goes well with a white exterior. I'm sure your combo will be beautiful however. Enjoy!

Oh, BTW, make sure you get the paddle shifters. I don't think it's included in any of the packages and will greatly enhance driving the automatic.

Thanks for the advice, ziggypup. I've been looking for wheel/tires combo at tirerack.com but I have a backup car so it's not the top priority. I'm also apprehensivre driving my brand new car in the snow so I guess it's going to be in the garage for 2 months...

And Richmond bimmer, also thank you for your advice. I love the saddle brown but i'm questioning the white. It seems to stand out a lot and sometimes I want that and sometimes I don't. Oh and yes, I will be getting the paddle shifters.

Congrats and you guys are lucky it snows for 2 months only. Hasn't started snowing yet, but wouldn't be surprised if it starts before the month ends (although this week is warmish). Of course that will last till April :(, so for me snow tires will go on soon.
Enjoy.

Well if you are not sure about the White, you still have time to change your mind. I'm not a big fan of white cars, but that's me. Lately I've fallen in love with the Montego Blue. I think the love affair started after I actually saw one in person with the Black Saddle leather.

Go with what your heart tells you.

Not to stir anything up here but Kim, if you are female, I think a white car goes well (as does any other color). For males, I'm not a huge proponent of white cars. My wife had a white Nissan Maxima when we met and she looked great with her long blonde hair in it. Some things are meant to go together and I hope this does not offend the guys that have white cars but a hairy dude getting out of a sparkling white 335i convertible would probably be better served with a different color combo.

Ducking in anticipation of incoming storm...

Actually I always thought the same thing, but would not have thought of typing it here - but since you brought it up, white verts are definitely chick cars!! However, ALWAYS get what you want and not to impress anyone else.

Haha...guess its ok for me then because I'm a chick, lol! Yeah I have to slightly agree that white cars are less attractive driven by guys...

Uh oh...am I getting the boot?

We just took delivery on ours and I cut a corner or two at first on tunes then had second thoughts. With the intergation of the IDRIVE it will be hard to change the tunes later so I quickly added the HIGH DEF radio and the SIRIUS too. BMW give 1st year free of SIRIUS and the HD radio is just too cool. I did not want to get the car and wish I had...

Haha.. The '01 325Ci Convertible mentioned in my profile is white and I always felt a little funny exiting the car. It is my wifes daily driver most days but I drive it every chance I get because it's still a great car (5MT). I tell people it's my wifes car whenever my sexuality or taste is questioned.

I just ordered a 2008 335i Convertible FOR ME Jet Black w/ Saddle Brown/Black Interior. I would've preferred the Saddle Brown Interior with dark blue exterior if the interior was all color keyed (like the grey and beige). However, the Saddle Brown and Red interiors have a lot of Black plastic. I didn't want to introduce a 3rd color so I got the Jet Black exterior. My first black car ever...

My configuration was yours -Active Steering, -Sport Package (fear rim drama in NYC), +Sirius.

I don't hear great things about HD Radio but Sirius is great. Actually I'm listening to streaming Sirius over the internet in my office as I write this. It's great.

Kim, just one other thought since you are getting the Nav system and are thinking of also getting HD Radio. At least on the 07's, you would not get traffic updates if you also got HD radio. Previously the web site did not warn you of this limitation but it is described in the details of how the traffic updates work and the antennae used.

bmwluvr3
10-18-2007, 02:29 PM
Oh wow I did not know about that little but important fact. Will Sirius interfere with the real time traffic updates?

I was not sure about the HD radio either, but the sound difference for terrestrial radio is great. The addtional bands are ok right now but may improve. For us one of the best AM stations in atlanta is being fed to a secondary HD.

I was typing that I remember reading that you could have satellite radio with real time traffic and thought I would go out to the BMW site to confirm. There is now an * on the traffic page that says

"*Not available on vehicles equipped with HD Radio™ produced prior to 3/07 (4/07 for X5). "

With that said, it looks like you might be able to now have HD radio and traffic updates on a new 335.

I'm pretty impartial to white cars, but I saw a white 335i convertible the other day and the rear end just looked a little awkward. Maybe it's cause the white really shows all the creases of the top or something... not too sure. My $.02.

So today I emailed my CA telling him that I wanted Sirius added on. I thought this would give him plenty of time to add it into the order because he told me my car was going to go into production the 3rd week of Nov.

Well guess what? He emailed me back and said oops too late, car's been in production since last weekend!

I called the 800 number and it said it's scheduled to be completed by Oct. 29.

How long does it normally take for the car to be picked up at the dealer once production is completed? 2-3 weeks? My CA told me I was going to get the car around the 2nd week of Dec.

Seems like I might be getting my christmas present early this year!

Congrats on the new car. As for not wanting to stand out. That car is going to stand out regardless of the color, it's a beautiful car.

Kim:
The Sirius can be added at the dealership with no problems so it is no big deal. New box, some cables, and box attachments and reprogrammed.

In regard to the car being in production done 29 OCT. Expect 2 weeks to get to Bremmerhaven and on a ship unless you are lucky, Usually less them 2 weeks by boat to get to the port. Port times vary but since you are in NoVA you should get it maybe a week after it is in port. So BMW usually says expect 4 weeks (optomistic but some do see that) to 8 weeks (mine was not far off that date but I picked mine up in Chi town).

I think you already have paddles on the wheel since you have the sport package and also there is no interference issues with RTTI and HD radio as there was back in early 07.

Lastly I still love driving my WHITE M3 and you can see for yourself the 335 convertible color I have. White is most practical in Florida where it is so hot in the summer that your skin melts off you body in the summer. My last vert (black) was sharp but you could not touch the car or comfortablely rest your arm on the window rolled down.
I think white is an excellent color.

Enjoy your soon to be new ride, sounds like you picked really well.

Hi sinclan1,

why didnt you test drive it? The dealer didnt have one for you to test drive? No worries though, you'll def. love it :)

I was debating between the beige, black, and saddle leather. The black would look too boring, imo, and the beige (although I love it) would be hard to keep clean because I have a dog and have no time to clean my car as much as I should. So I settled on saddle.

Let me know when you get yours!

Sounds like a beautiful combination...though let me say as i just picked up my '08 335i with that exact combination of colors...it is breathtaking...the black with brown interior gives a perfect combination of style sportiness luxury and the option for a professional look when needed...

what does price have to do with it? You think many people test drove an $80K+ M5 before ordering it, or that any of the new M3 owners test drove their M3 before ordering. Some people want the car no matter what.

Yes I do think that spending a lot of money on a car without knowing if you even like the way the car drives is foolish. So you'd be OK with spending $80K and then when you drive the car for the first time realize that the car isn't what you thought it would be? That's crazy... but again that's just me

Yeah I think it is just you :D. Not many high end car owners test drive their cars before buying either (e.g. Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, etc), but then if you have that much money to spend on a car and don't like it when you get it, you'd just return it at loss and get something else without even caring. It's us folks with not much $$ who care ;).

But then again... people that can afford a Ferrari, Lamborghini, or Aston Martin aren't in the same category than people buying a 328i or 335i
If you have that kind of money why would you settle for a 335i? But in case they did then I agree with you, they probably wouldn't care... I really wish I was in that position

I also got jet black/saddle/walnut. It's a great combo. Best thing about the saddle (Coral is the same way) is that it's not ALL one color-the black really does a great job breaking it up. My friend's got the creme beige interior on his E90 325i and it's almost too bland when everything is the same color.

Definitely sporty and elegant looking IMO.

There is one interior combo that I never thought of, but also looks nice-saddle w/gray poplar.

It's funny though, I've never been a big fan of white, but I started seeing the coupes in white and they look really nice.

I did a lot of homework before making my decision.
