Anybody ever paint the black bumper surrounds and front black valence(part on top of chrome bumper?)
basically to make it like the "world bumpers"

wouldnt think it'd be that hard to do and would look better than black

HERE (http://freenet-homepage.de/wokke/BMW-E24-635/635.htm) you find more pictures of my previous Swiss 635CSi painted the way it left the factory. Maybe it helps.

yea.. his is the world bumpers.. it'd be nice to have those, but I assume it's a PITA to refit them onto the pre-worldbumper cars.

Thanks for the link to the first car.. its not as nice as worldbumpers, but better than pre-world IMO

Not the best photos, but maybe some of these racing 6ers can give you an idea of what it may look like...

looking back, I missed the part in bold below and realize now that you knew that I knew that you knew you were postin' pics of different bumpers.. lol.

That's a beautiful 6ser, btw.. :buttrock

see it has the same electric seats I have.
Word is you're quite the E24 guru.

Do you have any info on repairing those seats?
Mine has problems with adjustable headrests (think a plastic gear/mechanism is stripped).

Also, the drivers side only lifts up on the outer side.. inner side wont go up with it.. so it tilts from left to right. Either motor bad or stripped cable.

Havnt even tried the pass. side yet, but have a feeling it's got issues too.. it's been out since I bought it.

I could see that the pass. side one has a snapped cable to tilt the seat foward for rear access.. took the back off and it's snapped right at the end of the brass rod.. just about impossible to hook back up.

My seats dont have any tears in them, but there's wear spots.. was wondering if there's places that can refurbish the finish on them.. perhaps a special paint that sprays on them?
They seem like really good leather seats... may even have a heater pad in them, but I dunno where the switch would be for them... there were two sets of connectors for the seats below.. one is a large connector that was hooked up and everything that would work, worked... but I found a second connector that was disconnected and I rehooked it back up, nothing new seemed to happen and I am guessing it might be power for heat.

I also don't know how the memory buttons work either... i see a green and red LED, I mess with it, and only green comes on sometimes. Seems there are three recessed buttons to lock in a position to memory... no clue how it all works w/out going thru maddening trial and error.

I can help on the headrests as well as on the memory.

HEADREST:

very common on ALL older BMW (E24; E28, E32, E34). and super easy to fix. At the bottom of the backrest is the electric motor which drives a gear mechanism via a cable (similar to speedo drives on older cars / motorcycles). This cable runs in a flexible metal hose (shit, now my English lets me down, mind if I continue in German?) which becomes too long over the years resulting in the drive cable slipping out of the mechanism.

Shorten the outer hose and the problem is history.
On the other problems you describe i can't help with any experience because never ran into them. But solving them shouldn't be a mystery either.

MEMORY:

You have the three buttons 1, 2, 3 and in front of each button you see a little "hole". This hole hides a tiny switch which can be activated using a pen or something similar. Drive your seat into the desired position, activate the small switch in front of the 1, 2 or 3 button and the position is stored in memory. Pretty stupid system, but that's how it works.

Leather can be refurbished but requires some knowledge. Spraying it would be the quick & dirty way. The pros first thoroughly clean the leather and then apply matching paint using a cloth. I never did it myself, but this is in short what I've read/heard.

In case you have heated front seats you should have those switches below the radio:

Whenever I buy a new old BMW one of the first things I do is go to my local stealer with the VIN and have him check in the system for all factory options the car came with. Looks like this (my M635CSi):

These are common problems and wokke is correct about the headrest repair. The other seat issues are very similiar and require the same mods to the cable cover length. Here are a couple of links for other fixes.

http://members.cruzio.com/~glennco/s_headrest_11.htm

Here is a link with many questions answered about seats under the interior section. It might be for the e23 but the same applies for most BMW seats.

http://www.e38.org/e23/

There have been other methods described involving heating the cable ends and removing the metal tip, then shortening the plastic sheath and then reinstalling the metal end. Try doing a search to find more info. Atleast this will get you started.

Thanks for the info and links.

That DIY repair for the headrests looks amazingly simple.. I've already got one apart on my garage floor.. so I'm halfway there to doing that fix.

Wonder if I have another cable bad under my driver's seat and that's why it wont lift both sides at same time.. hmmmm.

You guys def. know your sharks.

Take a look at the Big Coupe Group Tech Library (http://www.normgrills.net/bcg/), there is a ton of information there. for instance, a fix for the head rest: http://www.normgrills.net/bcg/Body_Interior.html#anchor1755289

Here is an alternative from BigCoup that shortens the cabe as Alpinacsi said: http://bigcoupe.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4742&highlight=headrest+cable
