Hi all,

I just picked up the headlight wiring harness for an 840Ci (part# 6312 8 354 539) which I bought for a friend in Australia where it is even more expensive than in Germany.
Realoem quotes US$130,- for a little bit of wire and a few connectors. According to my friend these wires go bad quite often due to heat. I'm wondering if there would be any interest in a small production of those wires ending up at a much lower than the BMW price. Since I do not know yet if I can get the main connector nor do I know it's price I can not come up with a price at the moment and before I dig into this more deeply I'd like to get some feedback on my idea.

Great idea - I will gladly take left & right for my 840Ci.

I just spent 4+ hours changing the headlight adjusters and I was literally shocked at how horrible the condition of the wiring harness was. Only 12 years old and the wiring insulation looked like it was 50 years old! What a joke! It's as if BMW used the lowest quality wiring on purpose.

Cheers

Will there be a US and Euro version? I will be interested in a Euro set as a spare. Mine is in perfect condition for now.

I don't think people realize that their headlight wiring harness are shot to shit (dangerous short waiting to happen). Probably, most folks don't dare to open up the headlight pods, since there is, in general, little need to do so. Eitherway, if anybody's taken the time to tinker with them, or adjust bulb alignment, they will know that the wiring insulation will be totally rotten.

This is a much-needed mod. And it would be easy to install.

but looking at the response it doesn't seem to be worth (for me) finding all the connectors and do the work. Especially since I certainly need to buy quite a lot of connectors if I get them at all. Tyco / APM (they do the connectors) won't sell single pieces to me.

Wolf, I think that people just don't know how shitty the condition of their harnesses are. If they knew, they'd buy them in a second.
