This morning on my way to school i wanted to defog the windows but because none of the lighting on the fan/heaters knobs works, i never succeded, it was too dark out. So after spending half hour looking at wiring digrams and searching the forums, I'm stumped... how the hell do i get this stuff to work? Is it because the stupid buzzer is disconnected? or maybe because my trunk light is disconnected? I dont know. Please help.

Do you mean all the lights are out? Did you try to adjust the dimmer on the pull out switch that turns the headlights on? I know its a dumb question but I have to ask...

Next try fuses, then its bulb replacement time.

No, the three lights that light up the gauges work fine, so does the dome light and the little light behind the hazard switch. But isn't there little glowing lights behind the fan and heater control? I also have checked and turned all the fuses.

I don't remember since in my car I took the wiring out like three years ago, and the new e21 doesn't have light there, but I can operate the car with my eyes closed since i am so familiar with it. For defrost turn the right lever on the right counterclockwise to its stop and the left one to the middle and then use the fan. (you don't need lights on the knob, it gives the car character)
If the fuses are ok, and the other lights on the panel work, either the bulbs are burnt or disconnected/loose/corroded......

There is 1 common bulb which lights up the heater/fan controls. If that burns out you have to remove the control set to replace it. Fairly easy DIY.
