If you plan to sell the car, and want to get the most you can out of it, keep it bronzit.

If that doesnt matter to you, then stick with what you like. Here is a good page of colors and codes for the E24. You should at least paint it a bmw color the E24 was offered in.

Id go with graphite (087)

To do a color change properly, you should do the engine compartment, underside of hood and trunk, trunk area and door jambs as well as the sunroof pan. This can add greatly to the total cost but if it is not done, the color change is readily noticable and can greatly affect the potential resale value. To do a respray in the original color, these areas can usually be avoided which will greatly save on prep time.

BTW, I had an 87 E24 in Bronzit and I thought it was one of the classiest colors on the 635............always got compliments on it..........would love to find a mint 5 speed Bronzit again......

mines 5 spd but the paint sucks. not the color but the condition. the paint is actually the biggest problem by far. the interior is in excellent shape in my opinion and my engine runs excellent. zero rust. how much do u think a good paint job would be?

Depends on what good means. I would say 3000-7000. Depends on how much prep you do like removing trim and bumpers or if you want them to just tape and spray. Another factor to consider is if it has already been repainted, it will add to the prep work and price. A color change can almost double the job if you want the engine compartment and all other areas painted. Most shops anymore want the quick and easy jobs that require minimal parts removal and minimal surface prep.

"decent" meaning a lot of masking.........probably in the $3k range
"really good" meaning bumpers off, lights out, grills removed, etc......probably in the $4-5k range

"perfect" meaning glass out, door handles removed, hood off, sunroof out, bumpers off, front/rear spolier off and all new rubbers and gaskets.........in the $8k range...

Of course, depending on location these estimates will vary a little.......

I had an 84 633 bronzit and I now have an 87 L6 Luxorbeige and the luxor is by far a better/richer color IMHO and I have yet to see another Luxor Beige 6 in person and it was one ofthe last colors added to the line so if you want to change it but not too much consider luxor.
