Hey everybody. I just ordered pads and rotors for my 850. Has anybody here done the swap themselves before? Ive never done it on a bmw, and dont want to run into the likely problems bmws seem to present.
If anyone could tell me what's involved in changing them on an 850 out of the ordinary that would be great. thanks

You shouldn't have any problems, I would say it's simple!

Boomer, i'm going to do the same thing in a couple of weeks on my 850. Are you doing all four wheels? Did you go for OEM? I'd appreciate it if you'd post your experiences.
Cheers, Nick

Hey, im actually changing them up right now. The only thing im not sure about is how to hook up the brake lining indicators correctly. Or even better would be if i could just some how trick them so they dont come on.. im not too concerned if they dont tell me when they need replacement, common sense does that job fine. So if somebody could let me know how to do something with those 2 wires for the lining indication that would be great!
Ill let you know how things go, im just figuring it all out as i go.

no biggeee on the brake wear indicators.......new ones are only $7-8 each and they clip into a slot on the brake pad itself..........if you want to "fool" the system and not use them just put a jumper wire across the terminals of of the socket at the rotor.

This is for an E38 but should be the same for the 8 series. (http://www.cardomain.com/ride/232372/5)
Another not so detailed writeup for the 840 (http://www.e31faq.com/Default.aspx?catId=90)

Hey nick, i managed to finally put in the rotors and pads. It was pretty straight forward... but if you havent done it before i would recommend doing a little research on the internet about the installation. I went through ebay and bought 4 cross drilled rotors, and a full set of pads. It opted for the cheapest i could find. My total wasnt much more then $300 or $350. I cant recommend going cheap, as i may be in for a surprise when these brakes get some regular use, (ie they may not have great longevity). Good luck.

I want to do the same, front and back drilled rotors and new pads all around. Thought I'm told Brembo only does front and have never been able to find a fnt and rear set. I can imagine doing only the front. Cars in for shocks, springs and exhaust, would be a good time for hoofs.
