I'm just kidding. I think he said he got an M tech kit recently in another thread so I assume that's what everyone wants to see. All roads seem to end up at the M5 though. That is the ultimate E39. Some guy just offered me an 00 silver/tan M5 w/70,000 miles for 23K. I was so tempted but that's almost 3 times what I paid for my 528 and I just don't like the vertical stitching on M5 seats. You gotta pay to play though.

I have the kit. Its sitting here and I have no damn Camera right now. I will get it back in the morning and I will start snapping shots. I was going to drop off the parts to get painted but I need to snap shots first. The minute I get some shots taken, They will be up on here in detail with part numbers. Nope no popcorn :( But shit loads of bubble wrap. I didnt find the packaging the best at all. But it all got here without a scratch. I did screw up a bit though. There was a thin long piece of styrofoam. I thought it was packaging but it turned out to be a $23 insert that goes in the rear bumper as reinforcement. I snapped it in half and threw it away but then I realized I was missing a piece so I went right back into the garbage and it was there. It even has a BMW part number!! A piece of styrofoam with a part number. I think its still useable . I also heard from Jonmcc that you can use the one thats already on the car.

Im serious, I will take a picture of the part number. It is pretty tough stryofoam though. If you squeeze regular styro, it will crumble, this one seems to be pressure treated.

I know what you mean gumbi and Jon is right- theres one on the car already you can use, we all have it. It goes on top of the rear bumper tube to space the bumper to the car right. kinda cheesey but it's needed.

Actually Im going to go for black molding all around. I wanted an m-tech kit so I got it. But for the most impact, I want to go with black molding. It just sets it off "proper" The molding is going to cost me another 100 + bucks. In the end , I can always change back to color which I probably wont. the only issue now is that PDC sensors which are silver. I need to paint 6 out of 8 of them BLACK. First Im going to pop them on as is. JONMCC game me a superb idea on what to do with them. But that will be Plan B.
Right now im scavenging my basement for an old digital cam. I need to take pics of all this stuff.

Oh I already have the place thats going to do it and have them scheduled to be done tommorow (Wed). I just wanted to see what BMW had to say? The price is for paint and install. My Paint guy who I have used in the past always gives me a fair price. But as far as installing, I'd rather do it myself with some friends here or have BMW do it. And it will be more fun IMO to do it myself. Everyone here has seemed to do it themselves with no issues. I don't see why I cant either. I might as well mount the siren speaker while I'm in the bumper area as well :evil2

I might do something retarded. Like take a my cam (which I finally get back today) and put it into video mode and have some of the guys help out with a "pull over" video. Atleast it will give you an idea of what the car looks like with lights blazing. I might just give you a little taste today. The cam should be here soon. I will wait for sun down and turn on the lights and film it. I might also stick a couple in the front grill cause I'm "gangsta :rolleyes" like that.


I will be honest with you though. Body work and rivets, terrify me. Thats why I will have alot of other hands doing the work for me. I will assist with camera shots. Now I'm just waiting for fedex to show up with the cam. Got a fresh battery and 4 gig memory card ready for deployment!

Well the Camera just came in and put it to the test. Finally the m-tech kit I have been craving for so long has finally arrived and in PERFECT condition. No ebay or after market crap here. This is ALL OEM and non of that "see through" fiber glass crap. The bumpers are going to the paint shop tomorrow.

Nothing special to my eyes though. hopefully you guys can see something cool. the white stuff around the edges seems to be some sort of powder. Comes off easily. Those are brake duct covers. You can block off the brake ducts if you want a la E39 M5.

The circular clips hold the grill mesh to the back of the bumper. They simply push onto little tabs, it'll make sense once you start to piece it together. Good luck!

If you plan on using your alternator cooling duct, then you have to use the appropriate fog light bezel (alt. duct is routed right next to the fog light bezel)

If you don't plan on using the brake cooling air ducts - then the two plastic pieces (in pic#24) is to block off the corners of the grill.

I have no idea what those eight plastic clips in pic#26 are, but I didn't use them, and my bumper is holding up just fine.

Actually on this m-tech bumper, there are slots for BOTH plate holders. Dont know if you can see them in the pic.

Nice kit. It will so sweet installed on the fiver. You won't regret the look and fit on the OEM kit. If you were to get some external body parts that were of lesser quality, unless you are a skilled body man, you would have difficulty with the fit. Since you didn't, it should bolt right on without any problems.

I'm jealous. You have bigger car parts in your house. :( I have a couple sets of trim and lights in here, but no bumpers :(

Im still double minded about the PDC thing and If i should paint all the molding silver. It makes the car "look" like an 03 but then th 540 03's came with black molding too. Im so confused. :( As for the exhaust, keeping it stock but having a 4" tip welded. I like the quiet factory stock.

Nope its what ever bekker sold it to me. Look at the pic with the bekker reciept. It has the exact amount I paid with freight. Overall not too bad. Im sure Bekkers is making close to 500 on each kit.

Well Im going to find out how difficult it is to remove the bumper soon. I believe the grill is held on by 10 round rivet like circular fastners. Take a look at the silverish circular pieces in one of the pics below with the bumper eyelit covers.

NEWS FLASH!! I will be selling the Grill and t-bar. I just ordered the flat M5 grill.

Let me know if anyone is interested in buying the gril, T-bar or both. Right now Fizik has dibs on t-bar. Person who will take both has first dibs.

My car is set to go in monday morning, to a bodyshop that the BMW dealer exclusively uses. Do you think they can wire up the M5 foglights as well? I'm beginning to think I should just have them paint the bumpers, and install them myself. Just from talking with them it seems like they're 'by the book' and I get this feeling that if I hand them a retrofit kit, they'll get lost with all the new ducting and stuff. Am I overthinking this?

Actually I ordered everything else I needed to complete the install. This includes the side door BLACK strips and the Engine covers. All 3 of them. Also bought the M5 grill since Im not going to use the one that came with the kit.

Nope, I will shadowline it myself. I dont want to ruin the door seals. Shadow lining with the shadow tape is fairly easy.

i have a question....did it come with those holes for the headlight washers or did you cut those in...? if it came that way is it possible to get the bumper without...?

It came with the washer holes. I had to ask them for both PDC and Washer openings. They pretty much have every configuration.
