Ok folks it's our turn to get the Band Wagon rolling! You may have seen recently where the E38 crowd has been gathering their forces to buy such things as strong struts and aplina spoilers. Well that got my itch irritated and it's time to get ready to scratch.
I made contact with the vendor from eBay who is furnishing the B12 spoilers for Farhod and friends. I asked him if he was able to offer the B11 spoiler for us older generation owners. See photos. Here was his reply:

Dear Shamrockmac5
Hi and thanks for the inquiry, yes we will soon be supplying the B11 Lip it may be a few weeks yet. Please keep a check.
Kind regards,
Ralph

So there you have it. We need to get the word out that we will soon have our turn to make a group buy for this item. I can only assume it will cost roughly the same to buy and have shipped as the B12 lips coming soon to our E38 friends.

Let us start the list then.

questions:
is there any feedback from E38 owners about the quality of this "replica" and what is actually the material they use?

are the fixing parts onto the car included?

what is the weight and dimensions for shipping (packed)?

Can they indicate shipping cost for that to the U.S. or Japan?

Price including proper packing for shipment by air?

Please also consider that you have to pay import duty, customs handling charge and local taxes in your country of residence.

Some pictures of B11 I owned in 1989 (first and last brand new car I ever bought):nono

Best buy used and let somebody else take the hit.

The spoiler on these cars is so low it's like a snowplough - I recall smashing at least 2 when parking forwards into a space and hitting the kerb (sidewalk) and they cost £450 ($850)inc paint in those days.

i also had a question if these were authentic and how much it would cost
and if they were replicas how much and how reliable?

All great questions. I will have to get to them in order with the vendor. I want to say the E38 guys were going to pay somewhere between $200 and $300 per unit before shipping. They had a firm price up to a point depending on how many buyers, but the buyers list has surpassed that initial point now and there was talk of a price reduction negotiation. I'll PM Farhod and see what he can tell us here.
I can say that the only authorised Alpina Vendor here in states wants over 1100 for each unit. These will offer a very significant savings and should be very nice judging by the pics I've seen if the B12 spoiler they are buying together.:D

I noticed in both your pics your parked in back first. I would have to adopt that practice as an absolute must do. Besides, it will always show it's best side when parked that way!:D

Gotcha!! All valid points of concern. I feel that we are going to benefit greatly from the experience here of Farhod and friends.
I'll try to follow up with more info on these replicas in the next day or 2.

Thanks for the interest and input Shogun.:D

Man, it looks good, but my only problem with it is, like CroxFox said, its like a snow plow, and is so low compared to the sides and rear of the car... I would consider this, only if I had some side skirts a a rear lip to go on as well.

I guess to be true to the period the "front air dam only" is appropriate.

These were state of the art for the day and just ahead of the complete aero kit school of thought. I am going to try this approach for now and see how I like it. My thinking is it will enhance the appearance more than offering any real functionality. The real idea of the air dam was to improve stability at high speeds. The speed limit is still 55MPH throughout all of Oregon with the exception of a couple spots on I-5 where it does climb to 65.

Also judging by the the pics of the lip for the E38's this will not be a complete front Apron as shown in the pics of the original B11 3.5

I have yet to receive the details of how exactly they will get mounted over our existing lower valance.

Is there a place to get subtle spoilers? i want one that looks like an airplane tail on the sides, flat on tops but to not look stupid the dimensions should be about 4 inches on the botton tapering to about 2.75 inches on the sides. and 1-3 inches high. or maybe a wrap around that complements the body line...

Do you mean for the rear deck lid?

I used to want one a long time ago but I just don't feel the need anymore. Plus I never found one that looked well suited enough.:shifty It might be a good topic for a new thread but I'm sure if you search the archives you'll find something.

Just got an update from from Farhod. He is our front man on this board for the E38 group buy, however the actual point man in contact with the vendor is from the other board. He was able to pass along what he knew and this was most helpful. He says their purchase price is $158 per unit if they gathered 10 buyers. The order will be bulk shipped to one of the group buyers who will in turn ship via DHL to the individual buyers here in the states. They found it would be cost prohibitive to ship individually to each buyer from the UK. Farhod adds that so far as he knows each piece comes with mounting hardware. This tells me that they likely have some kind of prebonded mounting studs which will require our existing lower valance be drilled to receive the spoiler.

Hope this helps

Dan

obtw, Thanks Farhod for the hinweis.

Ok so this idea may die before it has any chance to live but Crowfox's pics really got me thinking about the Alpina rims. There is a group buy going on right now for the KOPI wheels that are the TUV approved replicas of the Alpina Softlines. It is about to end and looks like a very good deal to me.

I should post this on the bimmerboard e32 forum too I suppose.

I am confident that if we get to 10 buyers we should be able to get these at close to what the E38 guys were quoted for theirs of $158.00 per unit. I expect to learn more on installation specifics from th E38 guys when they start getting theirs too.

No new info at this point yet, although he had said the process was still a few weeks out. That was almost a few weeks ago. There does seem to be progress from the E38 side of the house on theirs. It looks as though they should be getting em to the door at just around $300. An authentic front apron here in the states from the only legitimate Alpina Vendor goes for well in excess of $1100. I'll buy the replica and save $800 if you please. I will make an iquiry with Ralph the vendor on these to see if the engineering process has begun.

Edit: I just realized that I never posted in this thread my initial contact with the vendor from a couple weeks ago. (I had posted it on the other thread w/ the E38 guys. Doh!)

"I just heard back from the vendor in the UK. His name is Ralph and he is telling me that he will be offering the E32 version B11 Alpina front spoiler for sale in a few weeks time!!

That gives us time to start compiling a list of names for a group buy!!
Watch for the new thread you E32 owners!!

Not a new thread to miss, this whole thing got started when I was following the thread for the E38 guys who are buying a B12 Alpina front air dam for their cars from this vendor. I decided there should be one for ours so I wrote the vendor to see if he was able to offer one for us. I responded to that thread of my findings then started this one. :D

Pacethis I'll add you to the list. Keep checking back as I need to write the vendor and see where he's at with production on these.

There's a possibility that this can be made to fit an e34. There would be a lot of e34 owners interested in this group buy. Let us know what you find out.

Sorry for the delay here guys. I did have some contact from Ralph last week. He told me they are still a few weeks out on production. I still am confident that we will be able to get ours for very close to the same cost of the B12 spoilers coming for the E38 guys. That was right at $438 door to door last time I checked. The good news is we will start seeing some feedback here soon from those guys on fitment and overall quality/satisfaction before it's time for us to move further. This way if they aren't happy we can hold off.

Uhhh, out of curiousity, what happened to the price above? If the units are $158/ ea Bulk shipped, how much is shipping once they are in the states, another $150 ea?

hey shamrock, why you gotta use the e38 guys as guinea pigs huh? :)

just kidding, I'll let you know how the spoilers turn out once we get em, 438 delivered is right but it is a very fine line, im eating the cost on some of the shipping to get it going.

I guess that was the word for the pricing on the B12 spoilers when this process was still gaining speed like 5 weeks ago. It has since changed up due to cost of shipping. If there was a manufacturer here in the states we could potentially save a bundle, but alas this is what there is for us.:(
