View Full Version : OK, Let me know what you think...
madelife08 10-16-2007, 07:01 AM Just added new custom front spoiler and had engine powder coated...not really sure why though...Although, I am curious to hear what people think, so please...let me know what you think. Personally, I love this look. Should have come stock like this.( with a much lower front end that is...not necessarily a blue engine)
e31bubba 10-16-2007, 11:46 AM i love the mesh in replace of the side slats next to the grill is that a whole piece or did you overlay the slats?
whale 10-17-2007, 12:45 AM Did you have the side window opening trim chromed? I don't recall seeing other than black till your car.
boomer3 10-17-2007, 12:58 AM Man, everything looks great, i like the chrome around the windows. The blue powder coat is an interesting effect. I think i may have chosen a different colour, but its still good.
madelife08 10-19-2007, 10:13 AM Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, the aluminum mesh is just an overlay cut from a sheet of that stuff and then simply molded to fit over the normal black plastic pieces. The chrome around the windows is what really makes the car stand out. It is amazing how such a small detail can make a huge difference. It looks good on all the new bmw's/porsche's/Audi's...why not this car? so I had the bottom straight pieces fabricated from a 7 series trim, and the top long piece is a bendable chrome trim. It actually looks stock, not just in pics. Just sold the car though. Next project is fixing my 840ci.
Koizumi 10-19-2007, 01:49 PM I really like the front spoiler. I bet the new owner is very happy.
Cheers
whale 10-20-2007, 12:49 AM Where did you purchase bendable chrome trim of the exact size to match your original trim? How did you attach the new trim? On the bottom did you buy new 7 series trim or find a pair in salvage and had it chromed after the fabrication. What kind of fabrication had to be done? Did the bottom trim have the same method of attachment as the 850 trim?
Fatandre 10-20-2007, 08:48 AM Man, your car looks nice.

Everything is from a salvage yard here in SD that has only bmw and benz. Bottom pieces attached the same way, they were already chrome, just needed to be cut. Then had the rough cut edges shaped(blow torch), smoothed (grinder), and polished. Cant remember what year the 7 was that they came from...but only one style I found matched to fit right. By "bendable" chrome I simply meant that it was thin enough metal to manipulate. Use a torch so it doesn't kink. Just find a piece at a salvage yard that slides on the same way as the normal trim and has "roughly" a similar shape. Another option, (which is much more difficult) but if done correctly, looks just as good. But not quite as durable. Use a chrome /metal/foil tape (actually tape that is just very thin metal) Use a heat gun (blowdryer) and apply it to the factory trim. Sounds easy...but to make it look good, it is very hard.

Thank you....but the buyer never followed through. It is absolutely unbelievable! Guy lives out in florida, left a $1000 deposit, strung me along about getting the rest of the money, and then over a week later says sorry he doesn't have the money. And of course he wants his deposit back. Sorry moderators...but what a shithead. I'm not devastated because I still get to drive it...but I needed cash and was giving someone a great opportunity. This is an excellent running (and looking) 8 series with all maintenance records, I am the second owner, and it is turnkey ready to go...FOR $10,000!!!! Anyway, people are funny. Thanks for the compliments...and it is still for sale, so if anyone hears anything...
Koizumi 10-23-2007, 02:37 PM Sorry to hear about the deal going sour.
Yoru car is very nice, I am sure it will sell soon. Hopefully to a local buyer (to make things easier).
Cheers
