I wish that you had seen it before I "gave " it away as well.
No accidents while I owned it, and couldn't find any evidence of any from the previous two owners. They have the folder with all of the maintenance info. Only thing that wasn't working when I handed over the keys was the CD changer, which plays, but cuts out quite a bit. I had replaced the pos cupholders front and rear as well as the A/C fan blower speed resistor.
It was a great car other than the $5k I had to pay to replace one vanos unit and the o-rings on the other for the oil dumping into the intake plenum. Found some info on the M5board about it, but the dealership had no clue how to dianose ($1k just to replace oil seperators and spark plugs even after I told them that wasn't the problem). Took me 3 weeks of showing them more info on S62's than they had access to before they finally called the right person at BMW Motorsport who agreed as to the root cause. Anyway, runs fine now, but the experience left a bad taste in my mouth.
