Maybe try a metal coat hanger with a magnet attached to the bottom of it?

Couldn't possibly answer your question, but thank you for reminding me why I wouldn't take a tool anywhere near my engine, EVER. I opened the hood of my car once at the dealership when I took delivery of my car, just to verify there was indeed an engine under the hood, and subsequently, everytime I wash my car, I pop the hood to dry the drip edge around the hood and bumper. Otherwise, I'll leave any service matters to the service team at my dealership.

You may wana try the magnet again before removing the bumber, just go in your trunk this time and disconnect the battery so you don't have to worrie about shorting anything. But if you can't get to it and think the bumper being off would help they are fairly easy to get off. What series and year is it?
