Hello all. I thought I would share a little with you. My microswitch and door latch have worn down over the years so my windows would seal up and down everytime I would hit a bump over and over again. You know, like when you open the door the window moves down a little but repeatedly. also the doors wouldnt lock and the dome lights would stay lit. All this meant, the car thought my doors were open. After a year of this I looked it up here and found out what was wrong, the microswitch. Instead of replacing it I fixed it myself. Took 7 mins and I didnt have to remove and replace anything. I used JB weld.

I mixed a little bit together, let it harden up a bit and applied it to the notch on the car door

and a bit to the latch in the door.

I left the door open over night so the JB weld would harden and in the morning, it had cured and hardened. My problem was solved. JB weld cost like 5 bucks and I mixed it on the cardboard it came on and applied it with a bobby pin for the driverside and a nail for the passenger side, I did them on different nights. Hope this helps others. You have all helped me with my car and its about time I returned the favor.

Yes, I have had to replace the tape a few times. One of these days I will pull it all apart. I have the new switches on the shelf just waiting.....no time.
You put up some great pictures.
Good job.

No need to pull it all apart! Thats the point of this! You just need to add JB weld to the part that wore down. Its quick, its easy, its cheap. But if you already have the switches..

Just following up.......you said that you put the bond on the knotch on the door. Where exactly? In looking at the pictures, is it the spot that "looks" like bond is on it? Sounds stupid, but I want to fix my problem and I am not the best at doing that. Just making sure. Look at the pictures...is the notch that has the strand of hair (or something similar) close to it? Your pictures show both the door and the thing on the door frame. Thanks again for your help for this dummy.

FIrst two pics are on the car, the second two are on the door. That would be my dogs hair in the first and second pic. In the second pic where the hair is going "inside" the hole, that switch has the bond on it. its lumpy in that area. that is the JB weld on the switch that is worn down. In the fourth pic, that area in the latch that has the lighter grey spot around the black is also the JB weld. To get to it you will need to take your finger and push the latch down to expose it. it will click in place. pulling your handle will pop it back up, which you will need to do in order to close the door, otherwise the door will just hit the frame and not close. Am I making sense cause it feels like Im rambling.

In my explination under the JB weld pic I said door, I shouldve said body, my mistake. Pic one and two, car body. Pics three and four, on the door. Five six pick up sticks.

Thanks again. I am not sure I see what you are talking about in pic 4, but I think I can do it!

It's a pretty easy fix to replace the actual mechanism. If I can do it, anyone can! Read up on the diy first though.

Nice fix. Replacing the whole thing isn't terrible, but it's no walk in the park either.

I had the window-hop issue for the whole ride back from AZ to CT. Talk about annoying...

Ive had the issue for about a year before I did something about it! I just rode with the window cracked all year round to avoid the problem, winter too. Until the driver side started doing it too and it was too much to handle. I found out the problem here and fixed it the easy way.
