I have a new hardtop for my 98 323 vert. It was painted black when I got it - I drove 3 hours to Syracuse to pick it up. My son thought leaving it black would be best but I had the dealer repaint it Avus blue to match the car. The dealer did an excellent job and charged $450.

I had the top on for about a week but it was off this weekend for a beautiful fall day.

PW lorraine,

That black top doesn't look good. The color matched one is much better.

Yeah, but you have a black hood, trunklid and A-pillars.

That's comparing apples with oranges.

I mean, this looks nice too:

Mine was the correct color when i got the hardtop. No painting needed.

The yellow car will only look good if you keep the hardtop on. What about when the top is down?

pwlorraine (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/member.php?u=125953) great looking car, the wheels look great! The top makes it look great!

I have a top-down pic of that car so I'll post that when I get home.

It still look dam fine with the black mirrors, a-pillars, black rims, black interior (with yellow piping) and black trim on the roof compartment lid....

I happen to come across this thread, and know of an easy way to get your A-Pilars to match the roof color, WITHOUT PAINT WORK!!

For all VINYL fans, you can get vinyl wrap in ANY color...so get your Black Hard Top and get the A-Pilars wrapped or DIY and save tons of money, time and best off...IF YOU DONT LIKE THE LOOK, PEEL IT OFF!!

Just a thought!

PS- My first Hard Top was ElectroViolet on an Avus Blue Vert....NG

I actually thought about vinyl as a cheaper alternative to painting and looked at this website.

Once I started thinking about vinyl wraps I started getting dangerous thoughts about flaming skulls, dinosaurs, and exotic mirrored finishes. Application seems to take some skill but the wraps are easily removed - lifetime is about 2 years outside.

I just decided to have it painted blue though.

Interesting... I think that if anyone could pull it off you could.

Definitely the key is to make sure the mirrors and a pillars are black as well... The black wheels seem to be essential too. I actually like how on your photochop that you left the trim BLACK instead of keeping it color matched. Kind of sets it off...

Life is way too easy being triple black like I am!!! (And I'm sure M-Parallel will concur!)

I wonder if I could pull off a black top on my Alpine considering my vert top is black. Has anyone done it before?

I think that you most certainly could. The black mouldings help a lot. you've already got a start on the black & white thing...

Get an M3 bumper, but keep the bottom lip of it black instead of white, that would compliment it well...

Also, maybe smoke out your side markers/tails/corners!
