Please help. Thank you so much 335iDriver 10-14-2007, 05:31 PM Is it a lease? If so, don't get clear bra. Its inevitable the car will gets dings, paint chips and windshield cracks. If you plan to keep it then get the clear bra. My 335i is a lease and I got over it quickly when i got my first of a few paint chips. I take pride so far not having any door dings. ziggypup 10-14-2007, 08:59 PM Any truth to some statements I've heard that the clear bra is not good for the paint because it does not allow it to breathe ? mryakan 10-15-2007, 01:26 AM The ones I've seen the paint seems to fade differently and it makes it looks worse than living with paintchips, but that's just my opinion. Danny 335i 10-15-2007, 02:33 AM I know lots of people with clear bra on there front ends, mirrors, etc. If done by someone who knows what they are doing, and using the best material from 3M it will not effect your paint,or turn the clear bra yellowish. Some of them went with another company other than 3M and they were the ones that regreted it. You really should have it done by 3M.I,m sure you can find an installer by going to a 3M website. I,m sure theres one. If not just go to your dealer, or any high end car dealer and they,ll hook you up with the right people.I,ve been thinking about doing the front end,and the mirrors. I went to a car show this past summer and there was a 3M rep advertising for the clear bra. I asked him how much to do my then 06 Evo BR350 IX,and he told me 475.00 with the front and mirrors,oh yeah and the first6-7 inches of the hood. But i didnt like the lines that you really had to look hard to see,but i noticed so i decided not to go with the hood.Any way i heard about the 335i coupe, looked into it,did all the research i could find out about the car and sold my EVO (second one BTW,had a new 03 also) and ordered my BMW. If i decide to keep it for a while i am almost positive i,ll have 3M install my front clear bra,and mirrors if the price hasn,t increased to a ridiculous amount. They give you a warranty,or guarentee (i forgot, have to look for the panphlet the rep gave me)against paint damage due to the bra, or the product itself peeling or yellowing. Worth the extra money to go with 3M to get it done right. Was even thinking of doing the rocker panels from right behind the front mudflaps ( BMW acc. flaps of course) all the way back behind the rear flaps. I despise, especially with my bad back to keep getting the road tar and shit off from down there. It also attracts little rocks. When i find out more info and price for the 335 coupe and sedan i,ll post.OH YEAH and the 328 also.(LOL) Jhunter 10-15-2007, 10:27 AM mudflaps ( BMW acc. flaps of course) all the way back behind the rear flaps. Please do not put mudflaps on a 335i coupe! Also, paragraphs, spacing, and the apostrophe would make your post much easier to read.:) henrysko 10-15-2007, 12:06 PM A clear bra is probably the best money that can be spent on a new car. Think of it as a sacrificial coating that'll protect your front end fron all sorts of debris kicked up from the road. We used a place called Sticker City in Van Nuys and I recommend them. Cost about $800 and covered 4' up the hood, bumper, mirrors, lights, and fenders. Check out their website. And congrats! stejus 10-15-2007, 12:26 PM I had my 335i coupe done when I picked up my car last week. The dealer contracted out the job with a local shop. They used 3M and it’s guaranteed for life. They did the entire front end including part of the side panel and about 12” up the hood for $650.00. I tried to post a pic but my account will not let me. Anyway, from 3 feet away, you can’t see it. If you get closer, you can sometimes make it out. I’ve shown the car to three different people and they don’t notice it or make a comment about it. mryakan 10-15-2007, 01:50 PM I had my 335i coupe done when I picked up my car last week. I was never really a fan of mud flaps, but the ones from BMW that are made for the car are small, fit great, and do there job. BTW i know i need some help with my typing communication skills. I,ll try! mryakan 10-15-2007, 03:47 PM The mudflaps happen to look really good on the 335i coupe. My buddy put them on his and they look just fine. If someone really needs mudflaps on their e90/e92, maybe they should have gotten the X3 ;). I'd drive a couple of blocks to avoid roads that may necessitate me needing them. hungyip84 10-16-2007, 12:27 PM So the response is half and half...difficult to response. Also, do I need to polish and wax when I get the car? Thanks mryakan 10-16-2007, 12:35 PM So the response is half and half...difficult to response. Also, do I need to polish and wax when I get the car? Thanks Depends on how good a job your dealer did on prep. Mine was in awesome shape, some weren't so lucky. raceyBMW 10-16-2007, 12:56 PM Mine was in horrible shape when I got from dealer, wasn't prepped very well. I had to wax it twice to get all the swirls out. Just make a judgement call when you get the car. Danny 335i 10-16-2007, 04:26 PM When i picked up my car it was detailed to show quality. before winter sets in i will throw on a coat of wax until spring. As i wont be driving in snow or slush i,m good to go. I,ll be driving my grand cherokee for most of the winter. Bandit335 10-16-2007, 04:50 PM :nonoIn my experience anything you put on a car's exterior will be permanent and in the long run the car looks worse. Something even a clear bra will change the way the sun hits the paint and after a while the parts with and without the plastic will look different. Also, the difference will be more noticeable if you ever remove the plastic from the car. IMO these things do more harm than good and are an excuse for some who don't want to be cautious with their cars. Use common sense and this other stuff is not necessary. Do not follow behind trucks, do not lean against your car, do not put anything on your car's paint, etc... Plus, how the hell are you going to wax over it. This never made any sense to me and people actually pay a lot of money for this. In Europe you can see lots of 20 year old bimmers without this crap that look like new. This stuff is a scam for those who don't know better. Example, I bought a used bimmer once and to this day I can still read what was written on the windows and some paint areas. Are you going to buff the paint so that you can get them even? It beats the purpose of doing this in the first place. IMHO :) |
