What kind of bulbs did you use? Are you 100% shure ALL signals are working? That fast blinking is a sign of not enough resistance in the circuit, ie blown bulb. Wrong bulbs can also cause this as there are diffrent types of filliments that could cause this problem.
e30trapt 10-14-2007, 02:11 PM well the front right turn signal doesnt work, (blown bulb) but its such a tiny bulb i didnt think that would cause it
my plan is to replace ALL the bulbs though

Why are you going to replace them all? Depending on how the lights are wired (I know don't about factory E36, probably the same though), even one bulb or problem somewhere will cause something strange to happen. Even if the bulb is small, it still creates resistance in the circuit. When That resistance is removed, the lights will flash faster. If another bulb was to blow, then the remaining one would flash alot faster (and reduces its life). There is no reason to change them all unless your putting different bulbs in (chromes or LEDs or something) and want it all to look the same.
e30trapt 10-14-2007, 03:24 PM yea my plan was to put LEDS in, for now though im just gunna replace that one bulb
the thing though is i dont know if the bulb is blown, the filliment looks fine, it doesnt look blown, im gunna try testing it out though just to be sure
critterxl 10-14-2007, 08:30 PM Not to hijack your thread, but I'm dealing with a similar intermittent problem on my '99 Z3 2.3 Roadster. The left turn signal will rapid flash the first time or two after cranking up, then it will return to its normal flash cadence from then on. The other evening when I left home it rapid flashed the first time I used it so I pulled over while it was flashing that way and got out to try to determine which bulb might be burned out but could find none that weren't flashing. All bulbs appeared to be working. The odd thing about it is that it will invariably return to its normal cadence the 2nd or 3rd time the left TS is used. Could it be the flasher relay itself or are there even separate relays for the left and right side? Anyone have any suggestions please? Thanks-
Lee
ETA: This anomaly just now started the last couple of times it's been driven, it only gets taken out every week or two. It's just a weekend car-
lilmanmgf 10-14-2007, 08:46 PM My left turn signals were also flashing rapidly. The rear tailight was not blinking, but it wasn't because of a burnt bulb. The contacts on the bulb holder had some corrosion. A little bit of sand paper did the trick.
critterxl 10-14-2007, 09:08 PM Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check connections in that area. The strange thing with mine though is that all the bulbs appear to be blinking even while doing the rapid flashing... :pissed

+1, that is the #1 cause of interminitent flashing problems. Either that or a bulb that has broke, but can still make connection. That is a PITA, lol.
critterxl 10-15-2007, 06:29 PM Thanks for the ideas, I'll check the bulbs more closely-
