View Full Version : e46 m3 smg vs. 911 carrera convertable
Sticky 03-22-2003, 10:50 PM Just was driving from home somewhere, and there is a guy leaving my street in a black 996 carrera conv. (3.4 liter). He sees me get behind him and I hear a small rev from him as if he is getting ready.
We both turn left and he gets on it. I do as well and pass him through second, and pull in third. Through third I was ahead a good 4 cars and pulling.
I slow down and wait for him to catch up, I wave and give a thumbs up, and he does the same.
Now, my engine was not warmed up yet so I was worried about pushing it. There is no way I can turn down beating on a porsche, no way in hell. I hope I did not damage my engine or anything of that sort, the last 3 yellow sectors were still lit.
Sticky 03-25-2003, 01:38 AM I guess 996 kills are not exciting to anyone :(
JMWeb 03-25-2003, 01:47 AM
MMJ4mil 03-25-2003, 03:16 AM Damn you i cant wait till i get my ///M ;)

You and your lead foot.

Tell me you wouldn't have smoked an old guy in a convertable porsche...

Oh no doubt I would have done the same thing, I was just messing with you man. Too bad old timers in my area don't really like to go at it, they just wanna look fast.

He knew what my car was when I got behind him. If I was not in an m3 I am sure he would not have even batted an eye.
///MINI 03-25-2003, 09:44 AM You car must really ride bumpy with that triangular rear tire. :D

SDbboy 03-25-2003, 03:48 PM What kind of 996 was it?
Most of the C4s are tiptronic. He had no chance if he had that.

Are you doubting I run into these cars? I will have my camera with me in the car from now on.
4 cars in one gear is ALOT. Like maybe a 16 second car racing a 13 second car.
Are you sure he was really racing? Not doubting you killed him, but if he put his foot in it I can't see you pulling more than 1 car or so through 3rd gear.

No, he wasn't racing. He gave me a thumbs up for me blowing by him while he was driving idly :eyes1
Reread the post: I was 4 cars ahead, BY THE END OF THIRD GEAR. I did not pull 4 cars in one gear, carefully remove your foot from your mouth.

Just for your information dude, all of the people in Sticky's neighborhood have nice cars. For example, one of his neighbors drives a viper gts and a lotus espirit.

It's cool dude, just let the guy talk. He is obviously jealous. I won't post kills as frequently anymore, I'll just keep my "fantasy" races to myself.
MMJ4mil 03-25-2003, 10:28 PM Today on the way home sticky, this carrera 911 was in my right lane as i darted into his lane and i got behind him i noticed a roll cage in his? Is that stock?
Right when he saw me he prolly thought I was an ///M and he got on the pedal. I knew this because his wing rose up which is the coolest thing ever.
I didn't race.Well, umm because, I uhh, take it to the track :P

What type of wing did it have?
Was it a GT3?
I believe there is an option to get a roll cage in the GT3 from the factory, because it is so close to a race ready car.

Hrmmmm... where is that little statement that caused me to so STUPIDLY assume you pulled ~4 cars through 3rd gear...
I do as well and pass him through second, and pull in third. Through third I was ahead a good 4 cars and pulling.
Ahhh yes. So you pass him in 2nd. So I assume you are roughly beside him as you shift into third(unless your Super M3 powers caused you to pull multiple car lengths pass him in this gear... but I digress). Then as you wind out third you "were ahead a good 4 cars and pulling."
Yep, sounds about like you pulled 4 cars in one gear to me.
As some of the more experienced drag racers on this board might attest to, pulling bus lengths on a car in a ~20-30mph pull(one gear for the mathematically challenged) is akin to a Kia Sephia racing a WS6. Somehow I don't think you'd pull that much on a 996 Cabriolet driven by a one-armed monkey - much less anyone that can even mash the loud pedal with half an ounce of competence.
Here you go, it's some air freshener. You might need it to cover up that little aroma of asshole you have about your person. :laugh

Hey, if nitpicking my statements apart helps you feel better, go ahead. I know what happened, the carrera owner knows what happened, that is all that counts.
By the way, this wasn't a drag race, it was a street race. What an experienced drag racer could tell you is that ANYTHING can happen on the street. Have fun sitting in front of the monitor hating, I'll be out there having fun in my car.

I cna't imagine you being a good student sticky. When a student makes a mistake he learns from it; this is of course impossible if you never acknowledge the mistake in the first place. :)
Your wording of "Through third I was ahead a good 4 cars and pulling. " is ridiculous unless of course the 996 wasn't racing then it makes sense.
A stock M3 cannot pull 4 car lengths on a 996 that was racing unless he had a few bodies in his front one of them being Elvis and the other being Andre the giant.
I have raced one and he was neck and neck with me the entire time.

From what I have noticed, even if I race the same type of car, the outcome is almost always different. This is my second with a 996, you can do a search and see what happened in the other one.
Perhaps it was the way I worded it that did not make it clear what I was trying to say. He hit it in first gear, as did I. We were pretty even, I passed him in second (put 1.5 cars on him), and into third kept pulling for a grand total of 4 cars at the end of the gear. This was a convertable, 3.4 liter (had the yellow rear, and front lights) 911 carrera. I can not tell you if it was a tip or stick, I do not know. I hope that clears a few things up.

What's wrong? That little bit of crow taste a tad too bitter for you to retract your colored rebuttal? Much less even give an apology! *gasp* :mdrbig
As for knowing what happened - seems there are three versions going on here. What you think happened, what you posted, and what really happened. Hard to keep them all straight isn't it?
BTW - refering to me as a 'hater' puts you in a less than desirable group of car enthusiasts called "stunnas." That is, by those of us that don't have our heads firmly planted up our asses.
Let's leave the meaningless, but quite jovial, insinutations about the other person's Internet surfing habits out of this debate.

Whatever makes you happy buddy. I will keep posting video's of kills for those who are interested. Can't really seem to dispute the video's of me winning can you?
SilverStreak 03-26-2003, 10:13 AM I think this one has run it's course...
