View Full Version : Favorite Vert Care Products
M3rocket 10-12-2007, 01:46 PM :D My 2-cents on vert care products:
- Klasse All-In-One (red bottle -- great for any painted finish or glass, even helps eliminate squeaky windows)
- Raggtopp Cleaner & Conditioner (restores cloth tops, UV protects)
- Meguiar's Plastic Cleaner & Polish (:redspot restores cloudy rear window, headlamp covers, etc.)
- Forever Black Reconditoner (for vinyl door mouldings, etc.)
- Forever Black Tire Gel (doesn't look "greasy")
:mad Annoying Detail: Anyone else hate the airbag info on the visors? Since mine were "painted" on and not removable, I took the visors off, spray-painted them with a special satin black paint for plastics and sealed with a clear satin coating. No more annoying warning labels!
:embarrasm Over 40 Crowd: Anyone else get tired of reaching behind the seat to grab the seatbelt? BMW makes these great seatbelt holders that mount on the headrest bars -- holding the belts within easy reach. All the newer verts have them built-in.
:rolleyes Anyone have a suggestion for removing heavy-duty glue residue on rims left from tire shop balancing weights? The previous owner didn't have the tire shops position them on the inside of the rim.
What are your "must-have" products???
DucatiBoy 10-12-2007, 02:33 PM Personally, I like 303 Products. I love the 303 Protectant on the tires. It looks "wet" for about 5 minutes but after that they look deep black for at least a week or 2. I have loved it on all my "what I used to use armor-all" stuff that I ordered their convertible top stuff. I know Raggtopp comes highly recommended but so does the 303 stuff. I'll give it a shot.
As for your heavy duty glue on the rims.... I used mineral spirits. It's supposed to be pretty benign as far as damage to the tires/rims/paint. And a little elbow grease and you can't see where my old weights used to be.
RobHacker 10-12-2007, 06:41 PM Klasse rules...totally brings out the deep colors of your paint. The more times you use it, the better and better your paint gets.
Goo B Gone is a good citrus based cleaner for removing adhesive and would do wonders on your tire situation...won't harm anything either. Sold at Home Depots, too..Personally I would steer clear of Mineral Spirits on the car (it's a solvent)
I'm a big fan of http://www.griotsgarage.com/ for all care car products.
I don't think my '94 has the airbag warnings, but I had the annoying stickers on the inside windshield.
Invisible Glass rules for windows...buy it for your car, and you'll wind up using it in the house as well.
RobHacker 10-12-2007, 07:06 PM Oh and Maquire's leather cleaner/protector for the seats, and their plastic polish for the rear window and headlights.

Just about anything that would get rid of that kind of thing (besides a fingernail) can be considered a solvent. It's a relatively "safe" solvent. And it's petroleum based as opposed to goo b gone. I have used it a number of times. Just be careful about the "goo removal" you choose, cause right next to that one is Goof Off which is even worse. Even turtle wax bug and tar remover is a flammable petroleum product. There are lots of solvents, don't let that name scare you. I would not use paint thinner or turpentine, but I think mineral spirits are fine. I would not drench the body panels in it, but put some on a rag and clean the rims... shouldn't give you any problem. I used it like that for years and it seems fine. Too much clay bar on your paint is a problem too, but people use it sparingly and it gives great results.
And the soft top waterproofer spray uses it, you are spraying mineral spirits on your convertible top and it evaporates and leaves the waterproofing.

Question - My car gets crepe myrtle stains on it from the crepe myrtle tree blossoms.
First try mineral spirits. Mineral spirits will not attack the car finish.
There are a ton of places that will recommend Mineral Spirits for automotive cleaning, it will remove waxes but I don't think it will harm paint.

Never heard of that stuff, I'll have to try it.
utopia13 10-12-2007, 09:02 PM Maguires wheel cleaner is great stuff! Gets the break dust of pretty easily, then even tho it will come back, that stuff will actually make the removal next time even easier. Spray with the hose & you can see how the last application has made the new stuff almost rinse clean. I love it cuz my wheels are a PITA to clean! :mad
DucHuynh007 10-13-2007, 12:17 AM How about a product to take scratches out of the convert rear window? I got it replaced years ago and been so careful not to scratch it but it happens anyway.

THere are several grades of plastic polish. The stuff for boats is a little more abrasive and should do the trick. Of course it depends on the depth of the scratch.
