View Full Version : Anyone have Air Compressor I can borrow? Innovation 10-11-2007, 03:57 PM well I had a spark plug break off in the head and need air compressor to blow air while i extract the remains of the spark plug.any help would be appreciated. Thanks! VCS 10-11-2007, 04:00 PM id try a hose connected to a vacum cleaner Innovation 10-11-2007, 04:09 PM that crossed my mind but i need to blow air through the throttle body to make sure nothing drops into the cylinder.at least thats all i can think of at the moment.I dont think vacuum(at least mine) can suck up stuff that falls into the cyl. Side note.Only need to borrow air compressor for a day or actually probably only few hours. Kunu 10-11-2007, 04:11 PM take the head off. that way you wont have anything in the cylinder for sure. Most will probably disagree with this but from my experince with small engines such as this one it will not hurt it and will affect the engine running when put back together. Innovation 10-11-2007, 04:23 PM JetBlack328I- thats what im trying to avoid at the moment.it's a lot of work for such a small thing. And gotta buy new headgasket and misc gaskets. and while head is off im gonna wanna buy arp studs etc.so yeah.it's gonna be money pit if i have to remove head. PCP JR 10-12-2007, 04:34 AM I've got a mini-shop-vac that the hose can be put on the exhaust side for a good blow job; try looking around for one of those or let me know via PM if you need to borrow it. I'd duct tape the shop vac hose to your intake and let it blow away. I guess a leaf blower would work too if any of your neighbors have one. If you really want to McGuyver it, sneak into a house with a pool and borrow their pool hose and connect it to the exhaust of a second car to provide flow... When people ask you what you're doing, tell them you have just invented a car that runs on its own exhaust. 99MPower 10-12-2007, 04:40 AM its going to be a money pit FOR SURE, if you start it without getting EVERYTHING out of the head... better safe then sorry... that could be UGLY!!!! Innovation 10-12-2007, 02:16 PM what happened was spark plug broke off right.and there was porcelain still there.well i had to pull car from driveway to garage so i started it up and pulled it in real fast.but when It was running i could hear poof poof poof...the compression.i didnt realize what it was till the day after i checked it out. And i saw this: http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid225/p03a8b7ceee00c4064f52bd60abf5b086/e799ff3c.jpg I guess the procelain must have been cracked all the way through when the spark plug snapped. well the thing is.I dont know if it blew the rest of that porcelain out or if it went into the engine.when it ran for that short time the engine didnt make any other noises besides the compression poofing. I do see some porcelain and the metal spark plug washer around the exhaust manifold so some did blow out but i dont know about all.So my motor may be messed up already since it did run.I dont know.So I get the spark plug out and say screw it and run it.cuz the damage would aready be done. PCP JR 10-12-2007, 02:38 PM so i started it up and pulled it in real fast.but when It was running i could hear poof poof poof...the compression. ...or lack thereof. :help Sounds like you got a piece stuck in the exhaust valve. And knowing BMW engineers, they don't leave much clearance between valve and piston crown at TDC, so you may have had a strike, bending/chipping the valve. Head's comin' off... |
