Hey guys fist post here just some questions:

-I want to upgrade my ecu it is the Bosch 0 261 200 008 how would i come about this?

-I would like to get a front spoiler iv been told that i should just get a 635 85-88 front spoiler is this true? does anybody have one?

-Does anybody have front bumper ends (i would post a picture but i'm not allowed) the parts that connect the bumper to the quarter panels i have lots of parts for trade (trany, glass, ecu lots of stuff)

-Are there smoked headlights and taillights available for this model

Havent seen smoked tail lights. Ive seen clear, also clear for fronts. I would think you could smoke them yourself with the rattle can stuff.

ECU upgrade, not really possible for the 008 ecu. What you would have to do is replace the entire motronic system (wiring harness, AFM, ECU, etc etc.) to the 059 ecu from the 85+ models. Im thinking of doing it as i have an 83. Lots of work involved.

Look on ebay, roadfly, and bigcoupe for the body parts. They pop up from time to time.

Glad to see another E24 fan!!!

Welcome to the insanity!

over at jegs.com under the computer tuning section there is an ecu upgrade where u send in you ecu and they upgrade it, do you guys belive it would work?

Ive never heard of someone doing that for a bmw through jegs. i dont think it would be worth it. Chips dont give you that much of an increase in power. I dont know if the rest of the older motronic system can handle that kind of modification either. Your better off getting an LSD diff. Best bang for buck in these cars.

-JeffIf you are working on an American version, chips do help. My Conforti chip had a great effect on the overall feel of my S38 engine.

That may be for the S38 engine, but what motronic system does it run? The 83 6er has motronic 1.0, the first version after jetronic. This system uses the low empedance injectors, a different AFM, ICV, and other components related to engine management. This system is not as easy to upgrade with chips and reprogramming as the motronic 1.2 (or the ecu ending in 059). I think some point in 84, when the engine was switched to the M30B34, the newer motronic system was put in. This system you can switch chips a lot easier, and the rest of the system can handle the changes in air/fuel etc. Not to burst your bubble steve, but there isnt much out there for the M30B32 motronic system. Its still a fun car though, i love driving mine!

-JeffIf you check my signature you will see that I have owned an 80 Euro for more than 25 years. I am well aware of the differences in Motronic and the earlier Motronic/Jetronic systems. I never used the upgrade route with my car because the chip is not replaceable and you must send the whole unit for reprogramming. Since my car was a Euro, I did not think it would be worth the effort. My only point was that if I had owned an American version, and a company offered to reprogram the unit, I might well have tried it. There are a lot of guys in this forum who have. I was addressing your statement that chips don't add much.

Here is a quote from the D'Sylva E.A.T. Chips web site:

"Are you interested in a chip for the 0 261 200 008 DME as used in the 83 and 84 3.3l motor? Please email if so. Field testing starts April 30, 2006. "

Give them a call see what they have:

I hear ya. Im just skeptical of sending an ecu to jegs. They are a good company, very well known for domestic performance/replacement parts, but ive never seen or heard other than this thread of anything for BMW. Stemming from that, knowing that there isnt an "easy" way of programming the 008 ecu (i.e., not replacing a chip yourself like you can with 059), i wouldnt feel comfortable sending it to a company that isnt known for BMW performance.

This is not done thru Jegs. Jegs basically just sells you the box with instructions and the prepaid tuning so you can return your ECU to Jet Performance for the actual tuning. The next problem is that Jet does not do any tuning for the E24.

Most anything that you can get from Summit or Jegs, I can provide as well.
