View Full Version : 2004 X5 4.4 Common Warranty Repairs
schnej2 10-10-2007, 12:03 PM Hello All,
Since my warranty expires in a month, I wanted to take it in to the dealer one last time to go over any issues. Problem is I do not have really any noticeable issues. Is there any common 2004 X5 warranty repairs? Maybe some items I can bring up to have the tech look at? Heard of possible sway bar issues?..Things that have happended infrequently to me:
1) False Alarms - possible hood switch
2) Wierd door lock issues with remote - have to press re-lock to get rear door locks to unlock with remote.
Thanks to all.

kellie 10-10-2007, 03:51 PM Number two is probably a bad door lock actuator. Depending on how many miles your car has on it, you may want them to check the cyclone separator and associated hoses. They get soft and collapse over time which will set mixture faults and a check engine light. The last thing is CV boots. Aside from that, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. :)
schnej2 10-11-2007, 08:54 AM Thanks Kellie. Mileage is 45k = does your advice hold true for this mileage?
kellie 10-11-2007, 10:26 AM I usually see CV boots and oil separators go at a slightly higher mileage. Probably closer to 60k. It never hurts to check though.

you have the n62 engine. lower oil pan gasket usually goes bad, rough tranny shifting(DME/EGS) update available, panaramic sunroof rattles a lot(entire sunroof cassette), front driveshaft usually shears off, front outter axle boots, warped rotors, window regulators, door lock actuators, expansion tanks, tension strut bushings ususally torn every 30K miles, evaporator have been known to leak.
kellie 10-12-2007, 01:19 AM From now on, I'm leaving the lists to this guy! ^

I literally just bought an '04 X5 4.4i last night. What would cause the front driveshaft to shear off? Rough driving?
Critter7r 10-19-2007, 02:41 PM The front driveshaft shearing off is not a "common" issue. There are hundreds of thousands of X5's on the road in the world and a handful have had a problem with the front driveshaft.
