I cleaned out the ICV (idle control valve) with carb cleaner and let it dry out overnight. Went back in the morning and installed the ICV as well as a check valve (bmwe34.net recommended for hot start problem) near the fuel pump.
The idle now feels slightly rougher (a deep pulsing sensation while at idle). Also, when starting, the revs only shoot up to just under 1000rpm before falling back to normal idle speed. The engine feels weak upon start up, decent while driving (been having some hesitation issues).
Could the check valve be limiting fuel supply to the engine causing this rather weak startup? Is it possible the carb cleaner damaged the ICV? I listened to it with a screwdriver stethoscope and it was humming away fine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
