Is retail above MSRP on this car for some strange reason?
Used 2007 X5 4.8is' seem to be going for more on ebay than the MSRP is for brand new??
I'm looking at one now on ebay with 10k+ miles that is about to sell for 67-68k. The identical but NEW car on bmwusa.com with the same options is under 65k.
What am I missing here?

No, retail is not above MSRP. For 2008 models, I know that people are typically getting $1,000 to $2,500 below MSRP. I just got $2,000 below MSRP (and did not shop around).
2007 models, new or used, should be getting considerably more discount than that.

People can ask for any number they want to. They just probably won't sell the car.

No way! I go to three dealers. Start at a price below MSRP, then I lie to the next dealer by 500. He beats the lie by 250. and just do it two more times. This will yield a good fair price for your car. Dont buy some used car for more than MSRP. Buy new and you know what your buying.
