You realize it will need to be coded, correct?

You can't recode a used cluster to a different car.

When the cluster is brand new, off the shelf, it already has basic data stored inside of it. When you put it in the car, it has no idea what kind of car it's in, or what it's supposed to do until you code it. That way, BMW can make one type of control module work in several cars, instead of making dozens of control modules that are similar, but have minor differences.

If you put an instrument cluster from a different car into your car, the cluster will know. The mileage is stored in the cluster, AND it is stored redundantly in the lamp module. The car will compare the two mileages, and the cluster will keep whichever mileage is the highest. It will also turn on a little light in the cluster called the manipulation dot because it knows something is fishy.

If you are considering changing clusters because yours has missing pixels, your only real option is to replace it with a new one and have it coded by a shop/dealership with the proper equipment.
