Cleaned up pretty good but i will spend some more time on it tomorrow!
I have to figure out the trunk. It wont open from outside and no motor so im kinda scared to hook up power. Any ideas? Can i get in from the back seats?
Comments welcome good or bad.
Boostedcorrados 10-08-2007, 02:26 AM WOW kyles pics suck!!! the blurry ones are all him!
alpinacsi 10-08-2007, 11:05 AM When you say the trunk will not open from the outside; what does it do? You should be able to lock and unlock it with the key so power is not necessary. Is the lock damaged or missing the key?
jbd5015 10-08-2007, 12:12 PM that is going to be a fun project. Good thing you were able to brighten up the engine bay with nothin in there! Make sure you put an M90 in there as it is an E12 based euro car. Thatll make the car a blast!

Cool project. I dont think you can go through the back seat.
Acorn 10-08-2007, 03:01 PM M70 install FTW!
Forget those inline 6 motors, You want a V12.
Boostedcorrados 10-09-2007, 02:55 AM we got the trunk open and the trunk is insanely clean!! its nicer then my e36!!! tool kit, triangle, spare all looks new. No wasps but the latch needs to be adjusted. the carpets clean, floors clean.
i will get some pics in a few
Boostedcorrados 10-15-2007, 10:23 PM UPDATE!!!!!!
Ok so we got the car settled in. I got the trunk open and its flawless! the bay is another story.
So if you look you can see what seems to be a sloppy seam sealer job on the wheel wells. Its fiberglass and lots of it. Seems the car had some rust that they didnt want to fix correctly so its my turn to fix it for good. heres where im at.

you can see the seamseler looking stuff ^ before i ground it out.
ground out it all looks like this.

Removed the sound crap to replace it cause it was cracked and falling off.

The bay is gutted i just need to find a way to pull the wiring out of the fire wall or back through in to the car so i can paint with out masking it. Were painting this car and rebuilding it for the last time so its all getting done the right way. Im building a pannel for the rust and welding it in. I would like to find a NOS type pannel but i doubt that will happen.
Boostedcorrados 10-15-2007, 10:25 PM oh and to give you an idea how crappy the repair job was i chipped this out of the drivers fender!

Ol'6erGuy 10-15-2007, 11:31 PM Congrats on finding an E 12 based euro. The wiring thru the firewall above the heat shield can be removed by taking the glove box out, unplugging the ECU and then feeding it out into the engine bay.
Let me know about parts, I may be able to help you. I have a parts car, I don't know all of what I am going to need yet, but let me know.
Boostedcorrados 10-15-2007, 11:48 PM thanks! how about the fuseblock wiring on the drivers side? once thats out the car will move fast.
CW6er 10-16-2007, 12:07 AM Do you have an engine for the car? If not, check out Metric Mechanic, 3.7 sport 270 HP $6300 + core. Or are you going with a turbo?

The later cars have a connector at the fuse box that you can disconnect and pull the harness back inside, but I'm not sure how the earlier e12 based Sixes are configured. Here is a picture of an early car with the dash removed, courtesy of Klaus. Go to this post and ask Klaus for the link to his pictures of his complete strip down and restoration of his early car, lots of good info, and ask about the harness.

We have a motor, The PO had one built for the car. my dad just picked it up. its built botom end and a ported and polished head im not sure on the specs but i will look at the paperwork when i get some time. Were planning on running ITB's and standalone for a while. I have to look in to the motor more and find out what its going to take for a high boost motor. The goal is get the paint and interior done and running so he can take it to sharkfest(hes up tel all hours drooling over the pics of past events)
so the bay is going to bare metal. I cant deal with finding little rust spots all over. im going to read about the wiring now so i can get that out of the way and get the bay stripped out the rest of the way for the grinding and welding
Boostedcorrados 10-16-2007, 05:22 AM Sneak preview of what is to be done with the motor after the bay is finished.

its a pic of a lip i just polished...I know i need a better tripod and to learn my camera but i thought id share.
piercedwinky 11-02-2007, 05:34 PM the thread needs an update...
When are you going to pull the car back into the garage and continue working on the engine bay?
wokke 11-02-2007, 05:59 PM looking at the corrosion in the engine bay I highly recommend to remove the front fenders (the right one seems to be shot anyways) and do an inspection from that side as well. And in case you may get frustrated check out my horror story (http://www.aaa-car-imports.com/BMW-E24-M635CSI/Restauration/Bilder-des-Grauens/page_01.htm)about restoring an M635CSi. It's in German (sorry about that) but the pictures are in English :stickoutt
And here is the result (http://www.aaa-car-imports.com/BMW-E24-M635CSI/Restauration/Endergebnis/page_01.htm).

piercedwinky 11-02-2007, 06:02 PM That is insane!!! I cant believe you were able to do that much rust repair...
wokke 11-02-2007, 06:18 PM I just looked at the pictures myself again and I have to admit I must have been crazy. but the outcome has been worth it.
But I learned a lot and meanwhile I can fix those cars in the dark :)

Rust respects no language! In fact the worse mine gets (language) the more it shows its determination. :evil2

you are more then welcome to come wrench! I will even give you lots of lights so your not fixing in the dark. :)
So were waiting on media blasting as of now. I have found a shop to do it but the last one involved hours and hours of clean up and repair so im kinda scared. At this point the options are.
1 take it to them and risk it
2 strip it bare and let them have at it. They cant mess up what is not there.
I think shes getting naked and blasted:buttrock
Pic of the last bay all finished after blasting.

My dad picked a color and its Toyota black. It is the darkest black we could find. It also reflects like mad! I plan on using my buddys clearing method to make the paint look wet and as deep as can be.
wokke 11-03-2007, 04:26 PM thanks a lot for this kind offer. I really appreciate it :D
But I have no time currently since I'm doing two E24 restorations parallel - not such hardcore jobs as my M635 though.
I could imagine that the reason for the endless hours for your last media blasting job was due to the undercoating. This stuff is a PITA to get off. The latest technology they use for this is something we call "dry ice blasting" (it's CO2 pellets). It does not take away the (good) paint nor the rust but oil, grease, undercoating.

piercedwinky 11-16-2007, 01:49 PM so the using C02 pellets, you were able to not damage the hoses or paint... or bushings???
And russ, I miss jason's car.. Im going to go look at his engine bay later next week just to stare...
freedomgli 03-25-2008, 10:59 AM Any updates? I'm loving this project, especially as I am about to embark on a similar one of my own. I, too, am simultaneously restoring two E24s: a 1984 633CSi street car and a 1988 635CSi race car. That C02 blasting looks phenomenal. How much did it cost you?
detroit635csi 03-25-2008, 06:12 PM ...i think wokke does his own work if im not mistaken...
and yeah where you at boosted? i wanna see whats goin on!! its been months!

I haven't had it done to any of my E24 but they charge about US$1.500 for it. But this includes removing the exhaust and gas tank as far as I remember. The pictures where taken from the company's web site.
Lavalamp 03-26-2008, 04:06 AM dang, for $1500 i think i'll just stick to simple green and a pressure washer.

now you know why I haven't had it done :)
Boostedcorrados 03-26-2008, 05:29 PM sorry guys. Heres the updates.
Nothing has really happened. kyle, got a media blaster and he has a valve to fix on it for the bay. I moved the car up to the shop so i have more room to work on it but am just waiting for the bay and front wheel wells to get done so i can fix the rust and shoot it. The motor and tranny are ready to go in for the most part.....The other part of this thats being held up is my dad cant make up his mind on the interior color and wheels. I think it will wind up with 18inch style 5's cause it needs big wheels and to be super low.

make sure to find some pics with the 18" Style 5s (RC061/062) on an E24 before getting them. I personally don't like them on the E24 at all while the 17" Style 5 (especially staggered) look great.

I will...my dad has told me 18inch wheels are a must. He wants Mpar's but i like the mesh wheels and some stretch/slam action so he only gets to pick size on the wheels and factory or aftermarket. He says 18inch factory wheel. If he hates them i will put them on my car or something. I highly doubt he will worry about it when its done. He thought about cleaning the car and putting the motor in. I told him i would kick him in the junk for it. I have kinda made this my project for him and he doesn't seem to have a problem with it. He doesnt have motivation to work on a car anymore anyways...I enjoy it and it will look really good sitting in the garage next to my car.
