Okay, craziness going on today. Let me preface the story of this event by telling you all that only this past Sunday, 4 days ago, I hardwired in a new Escort 8500 and my BCT-12 Scanner into my 95' 525I. I just got the detector at the end of last week. Still learning the hot spots around town etc... Well today it paid itself off.
I had an appointment after work today, no biggie, buying a house, filling out paperwork. Still a little excited about those events and not really paying attention to the world around me.
Our rush hour around here isn't bad, there aren't a lot of people, but there aren't a lot of roads either. In short, there are a lot of "yellow light" dashes going on. Well on my way back from the appointment with loan lady, I'm on main drag that "T's" at another main drag. I'm in the RH turn lane, just pokin' along. Like I said, still pondering the potential of my latest financial comittment.
I get up to the light and we have the handy green arrow, which in Ohio is much like a disappearing oasis. I crack a smile and make my turn, but there are still several cars behind me. Two cars back, enter a red Grand Am GT (not GTP), who will be referred to as Dumbass from here on out. Dumbass squirts through the yellow and swings wide into the inside lane.
Most people, like myself, are in no big hurry. Real estate has been hot lately, so maybe they were all in their own little worlds like I was. I'm not paying attention to Dumbass, because quite frankly she doesn't concern me (yes it was a woman, but I didn't know this until later). Well Dumbass starts to close the gap behind between us, mind you I'm still in the outside lane, so she's at my rear left. Dumbass is gaining on some slow moving folk in her lane, not terribly slow, but slow enough to inconvenience her. She flogs it to cut me off, and I really hate it when people try to cut me off. I had enough warning to go WOT in 3rd, but despite the overwhelming fury of the M50, she squeaks by and slides over in front of me. By this time we're going maybe 15-20 over. Really couldn't tell you.
(Sidenote-- This is where I technically get killed by Dumbass, but read on, it gets better)
All of a sudden, my 8500 goes freakin' apeshit, I've heard it go off pretty good in front of stores and things, but this thing went NUTS. Needless to say, I lay on the brakes pretty good. Meanwhile I'm trying to spot Mr. :cop:, because I know it was a Ka Band signal. I couldn't see him ahead of me, but I might have been right on top of him when he tagged me. After I lay off the brakes, I loose the sunglasses and look as respectable as I can. I also slide into the left lane in front of the slow people that Dumbass shot around. The rearview mirror now has some disco lights closing in, not good.
I find a street to the left and tap the blinker on. I hit it kind of late because I wanted to trap the slow people behind me to Mr. :cop: will shoot by and I'll have a chance to escape if need be. Well this plan worked! The cop did go by me, and I swung the left when everyone else coming at me pulled over to let him through. Dumbass is still cruising about 15 over way up ahead of us.
Mr. :cop: is going toward Dumbass, he's locked onto her. Right after I took my left I locked onto the local police frequencies on the scanner. He nabber her at a traffic light and was giving her the business in a parking lot. Well Mr. :cop: calls in everything to dispatch, and this bitch is driving on a SUSPENDED LICENSE (this is when I find out it's a "she"). A lot of serious shit comes over the radio. The cop radio'ed for a tow truck, and I think Dumbass got some bracelets and is spending some quality time in County right now.
This was an interesting experience. I can't say it was cool, I can't say it was scary, but it was pretty neat to see the benefit of both my toys at once.
I also feel as though I've done my good deed for the day. My efforts have fooled an outlaw to reveal herself to the authorities. If I had a bit more brass, I'd try to collect an award for her arrest, but it's probably not worth the trouble :)
All in all, it was a hell of a time. I believe I'm going to go choke down a beer and reflect on life. :crazya:
BTW- Keep my bro in your thoughts and prayers, he's on the front lines in Iraq. :ak
