Hi guys, im having issues with my car that stem from electrical/obc area.
Here is what I know so far: 2 weeks ago my radio just stopped playing, but I could see the fm station on the nav screen, but no sound what so ever. next time i start the car it works again. sounds like a short?,but keep listening....
After a week of radio off and on working then all of a sudden i start the car yesterday and i 1st noticed the nav screen and on the menu the only highlighted option was turn off moniter, and nav gps. All other options i coulsd not click on if i wanted too, such ass dsp, obc, etc.

Also i noticed the seat belt light on along with fasten seat belt text on the obc display even though i was buckled in.
When i took off and drove i found out the turn signals would not work.

So today started it all up and everything works!
In recap somthing in the obc/electrical is shorting maybe, where for no reason stops working than working. I figured maybe water getting into trunk, but could not find no water. If anyone has ideas where to check for this problem id appreciate the help.

2 guesses, and thats all they are guesses, These cars are very sensitive to having proper voltage. Check the voltage of the car when running. If not near 14 volts, that may be your problem.

Also a bad ignition switch (common) causes many strange electrical issues. Just use the 'search' to find out the symptoms.

Checked the voltage and it was 14.2, so im sure its not the battery.
So is everyone in aggreance that it is the IGNITION switch?

See if flipping down or up your right visor has any effect on the radio. If it does, then it's definitely the ignition switch. Another one of those e39 peculiarities.

How did you ever figure that out?

+1 open and close the vanity mirror...see if the radio cuts in and out....

As strange as that sounds to a normal person,it makes plenty to me,cuz this is german enginering at its best.
So far this weekend it has not glitched yet (knock on wood) ,but when it does i will try that trick. If that solves it does this mean its the ignition switch?

It won't "solve" it. You may just find that flipping the visor up or down or opening the vanity mirror will cause the radio to go on or off. If so, you need to replace the ignition switch and all the electrical gremlins go away.

This is not as crazy as it seems. You are turning on the vanity mirror light by flipping it down.
