Hey all. Need some advice on a purchase. I currently own a E39 528i, and I am looking to get an X5 to replace it. The problem is this...... which one. The 6 or the 8 cylinder? Is the 6 gutless? Is the 8 horrible on fuel?

I would suggest taking both for a test drive. The 6 should be better on fuel, but it will be a little slower and could strain under certain conditions. It all depends what you use the vehicle for and how you drive.
If price is not an issue, I would recommend spending the extra and going with the 4.8

Based on what I've gone through with my I6 X5 and reading the experiences of V8 X5 owners, there seems to be more problems with the 8-cyl models. With the exception of the window regulators, my 3.0 X5 was flawless in the 5 years I've owned it. Power is sufficient for a DD.

Im on the same boat here and looking at buying a 2002 Auto 3.0L w/ 150,000km but my main concern is at this condition what would we looking at that would fail any moment.
Tested X5 I6 3.0L and to make things clearer it drives like my old E36 325i

If you're going to get a 4.4i, get a 2004+. If you really want to go nuts, get a 4.8is.
If that's out of your price range, get a 3.0i, preferably 2004 or newer.

i have a quick question for an X5 owner here.....
do the rear windows roll down all the way, or do they stop half way?
This is quite important. (don't ask why)
